I'm having an urge to rearrange our whole apartment. Or at least the livingroom/tv-area. Sadly I have no interior design tendencies whatsoever. No sense of what might look good or function better. I walk through IKEA, looking at the neatly designed rooms and I get no ideas at all.
My home is like this: Disorganized!
I have a mountain of bills/paperwork in one corner of the kitchen. And when I say mountain I actually mean mountain. As in we add to the pile and by some miracle it stays on top of the table. Two years ago I organized it all to be put in maps and folders. Took me two hours. Went out, by the time I got back hubby had piled it all on top of the table again. To say I was upset is an understatement. I told him he better clean it up again. Like I said, that was two years ago. The pile is still there, just bigger. *sighs*
Pretty much every available surface is covered in clothes. Clean clothes, most of them folded, but with no place to put them. We have horrible closets. They're built-in and as badly as if I'd done them myself. Seriously the closets in the bedroom? Four doors, none of them the same width! I can't buy baskets or anything that fit into them. The kids room each have a built in closet as well. It's like a big box with two big deep shelves and a hanger that keeps falling down. Hate them. Thing is the walls are stupidly uneven on the surface so removing the closets means it will be very visible. (It also means that you can't put anything on them, like stickers and such in the kids room. They just fall off. Hate these stupid walls.)
The tv area is one big clutter. Two low bookshelves with an old tv table on wheels in between. DVDs everywhere. We need to buy some kind of unit but we have an old tube tv and they don't really build units for those anymore. We've been waiting for it to die so we can buy a cheap (ha!) flat screen. The picture is starting to go a little purple on one side but it's been like that for over a year so I don't see that happening any time soon. Which is just as well since we can't really afford a new tv anyway. Of course the IKEA unit we had our eyes on has been discontinued.
We've lived here for almost 7 years and have only put up a few pictures. On nails that were already there. Yes, we suck.
Our kitchen is ugly! The counter is some kind of white plastic that gets discolored by tomatoes and soya and whatnots. Stains everywhere. Ugly!
And then of course there is the cat hair. Everywhere! If we ever sell this place to someone with allergies they'd probably have to purify it with fire to get rid of it all.
Boring, boring apartment. Except it wouldn't be if we were better at this. It's got big windows, is bright and could be very nice if we knew how to make it so. We just suck at this. Also, slobs.
I'm looking at sites online, trying to find some nice cheap ideas on how to make it look more neat and homey (or is that homely? I can never remember which is which). Why are other people so good at this? I told hubby that being a less than 100% straight man he could at least have been born with some design skills but no, he got the love for Eurovision songs and the dancing skills instead. Pfft, a fat lot of nothing that does when he's married to a woman with two left feet!
Of course what I'd really like is to inherit a nice little house that I can move into all ready with pretty furniture and pictures on the walls and a live-in cleaning staff. And a garden! I want a garden! And, you know, someone to look after it since I have no green fingers whatsoever. Also, a pony. And Jensen Ackles naked in my bed. Not necessarily in that order.
