That. Was. AMAZING!!! *flails*
OMG, seriously, you have to see this play! I thought I'd rather see BC play the doctor but 1) the creature has a LOT more stage time (\o/) and 2) BC was absolutely BREATHTAKING in the role. God, so painful to watch at times. Broke my heart. Yes, I still missed Benedict's hair(what is it with fandom and obsession with hair? I don't know but for some reason it matters, it really does. lol) so now I'm watching Sherlock for the fourth time while I'm waiting for hubby to come home. All those pretty, pretty curls. (Yes, I know he's ginger in RL. I think he's cute that way, too.)
The one playing the doctor, Jonny Lee Miller, was amazing as well. It's just... that role is of course so completely different from the other (which is why I'd love to see the play again with the roles reversed) so it's hard to really appreciate him in the same way because frankly, the creature owns the stage whenever it was present. Been a long time since I watched such an emotionally gripping character.
I kept forgetting I was watching it live. That at the same time I was sitting there in the cinema what I was watching was actually happening on stage in England, right that moment. Well, a few seconds before probably, isn't that how it works? Very weird to think about. So I just kept forgetting, again and again. There were subtitles which I actually found distracting. Doesn't matter if I can perfectly understand what they're saying, for some reason I always start reading the bloody text instead of watching their faces then have to rip myself away from it. Like I said, damn distracting.
I'd forgotten how damn brilliant that story is. I read it many, many years ago. In high school, I think. I'll have to revisit it now of course. Mary Shelley, a brilliant woman, long ahead of her time.
*breathes out*
Seriously, if you have any chance to go see this next week, do it. BC will be the doctor then so less stage time but on the upside he'll have hair! And, you know, less scars and sutures and drooling. *g* And I've read that JLM is just as amazing in his interpretation of the creature. I really hope they show it here next week, I'd love to take hubby to see it.
Check
here to see whether and then when it is showing near you. March 24th. I can't recommend it enough.
