So I've been working a lot more on my writing. This is something I've been meaning to do all summer, but I couldn't get past my school-induced writer's block until just yesterday (I've only been averaging 1-3 pages a day of fiction since January ( Read more... )

...short story contest... that place where i have been saying "i should get my ass in gear for that" every year for the past five years... still haven't. I always wonder how they'd feel about a) stories with an emphasis on sex, b) stories with swearing...

maybe submitting poetry would work better for me

I've entered the last two years, to no avail. The very first thing I ever sent out was to them, and I got my first rejection letter from the same. I'm thinking about framing it ^_^

Something about rejection letters always made me somewhat giddy rather than depressed.. it's wierd. Of course I suppose acceptance letters are better but I haven't got any of those yet so I guess any letter is good :D

Same for me. I've gotten so many non-responses that getting a rejection letter at least makes me feel like a human being. Half the time, I wonder if it even gets to them, and the other half I wonder if it was so bad it didn't merit a response:/

By the way, foi_nefaste is thinking tomorrow for a Gravi night. Does that work for you?)

There's some abysmal crap being published. Poetry is kind of fun - I just had some published in velvet heat. It's a good way to break into the market - get into some sort of anthology. Good luck with the CBC short story competition. I always have such trouble with short stories. Everything comes out novels.

It tends to come out that way for me, too, but I think having a novel on the side is helping.

What's velvet heat?
