Another family holiday, this one less painful than the last

I think this is when we make the traditional post-Christmas LJ post about the loot we got. There was loot had. I got a set of Tarot Cards from my friend Sam, a cool day-calendar from jc2004 and snowdaemon, a scented candle, quite a few clothes (Christmas is the reason I'm not naked, most of the time), and gift certificates to Future Shop and Chapters.

There was an Adbusters magazine in there, which I appreciated, but which was made quite ironic by the flurry of commercialism around us. I did find the perfect gift for my environmentalist cousin who's also disturbed by the holiday: a card on recycled paper that's been embedded with wildflower seeds. When you're done with the card, you can plant it, and the paper nourishes the seeds.

I still have all the same issues I had last year. I think my anger in this respect has run a little cold, however, and getting out of the house a lot and gettng a lot of writing done has helped.

Yesterday was mostly good. I got to see the four generations of extended family (my grandmother is now a great-grandmother), who I get along well with. But I rarely have much to talk about with them -- generation gaps seem to double every year. I mostly hid out with my sister and snowdaemon, where we turned back repeated assaults by our cousins' children, to whom my sister had given robotic velociraptors.

I've reached the point in my geezerhood where it's not what you get, but who you spend the holiday with that's good. It's fun to spend time with jc2004 and snowdaemon, and I want to see Sean and Sam again before I go.

family, christmas
