As most of you know, this last weekend,
luriddreamscape and I had a little gettaway.
We stayed
here, at the Bayhouse.
I'm posting about it because, well, I said I'd do so once I had some feedback for the place.
Lovely little cottage...bungalow? Does anyone know what actually constitutes a bungalow?
Not quite as far Out of the Way as we'd thought...it sits on the south side of Chuckanut drive, *just* after the road starts up into the hills and forest propper...like...*just*.
So the ocean view is more a view of tidal flats when the tide is out...
But it was pretty. And a short drive (or long walk) away from REALLY Out of the Way.
It's much nearer the road than we'd wanted, and VERY near the Burlington Northern railroad tracks...
But the trains come seldom enough that it's somewhat charming, and Chuckanut Road isn't exactly a bustling highway. In fact, it really was pretty quiet except for the couple of hours on Saturday night when local fire, law and Coast Guard units were mounting a rescue effort on a hang glider who'd been seen crashing into the water, apparently right outside our cabin.
We didn't see it, but we did spend some quality time watching a Coast Guard helicopter run search patterns across the bay.
ETA:
As it turns out, it was a baloon. All in all, the place wasn't *exactly* what we'd been hoping for, but it was cozy, with a (gas) fireplace, a nice view, and a lot of little amenities which amounted to pretty wonderful hospitality on the part of the proprietors. For the price ($135/night), I actually recommend it. Particularly if, like us, you're a fan of the food in Bellingham.
And yes,
fencermatt, there is a Potato Burrito.
Extra sauce.
Also? If you look closely, there is no DVD player at the cabin. This is important unless, like
luriddreamscape and I, you needed a new DVD player anyway...
Or...y'know...if you don't really want to watch DVDs. :)
