Turns out I might actually be allergic to Maddy!!
I've been getting a rash on my arms and legs that was driving me nuts with the itching. So anyway Pirate noticed that it got worse after I had fussed or played with Maddy and mentioned it might be an allergic reaction. So as I have anti-histamines that I take for hay fever I tried taking them daily and hey presto - no more rash!! Guess he was right and I'm allergic to the dog. Well I'm going to keep taking the anti-histamines rather than get rid of Maddy and mention it to the doctor when I have to go back next month :D
