Take my last post and amend the depth to 14-15 inches (35-37.5cm). The roads aren't too much of an issue at the moment, but one jack-knifed lorry or skidded bus and the entire place will fall apart. Speculation is running rampant as to how regular this will occur; last year was similar and this year is worse. Simply a case of two 'bad winters' occurring next to each other or the start of a trend? Oh to be a journalist and extrapolate all sorts of pseudo-science articles from the statistic of 2.

So i've now ran 15km in the snow, 5km each day.

Day 1: 7 inches, 29 minutes approx
Day 2: 10 inches, 30 minutes 30 seconds
Day 3: 15 inches, 40 minutes 30 seconds

Each day has been harder than the last as I attempt to lift my feet up to an elevation to clear the snow. This of course means my downward foot stroke has more power and pushes down further than it would on previous days. It was actually quite a struggle this time round, I guess my legs are now raising to such a level to clear the snow it's simply inefficient to continue running. I am 'enjoying' it and the resistance training but today may be the last day of running outside.

The last side effect of running in the snow, with dropping temperatures, is that ice started to build up on the calfs. While I was warm enough to melt the snow splashing onto my leg, that water then began to freeze and i'd have to stop every so often to wipe it off.

For those that aren't in Edinburgh just now it is probably a once-in-a-lifetime event to have this much snow. My opinion would be next winter won't be like this... Of course now i've said that i'm going to get some XC skis and wait for next November :o)
