I feel like my journal is turning into some sort of exercise diary just now though that's probably nothing to be surprised about given that it's pretty much all i'm doing at the moment. I could talk about work in vague references but really it's even more boring than my exercising and i'd have the chance of group legal taking a walk in my general direction with baseball bats. And not because they heard I am a fast runner...

So yesterday I had a slight change from my current exercise* routine to go to the Implant gig. Bands playing where Anowrexiya, Sysfx and Implant. I quite enjoyed tho two support acts and Implant was as good as I remember, got my fix of beepy music and had a couple of pints of guiness. Was absolutely shattered though and left straight after Implant finished. Soon as I climbed into bed I fell asleep.

Took me a while to roll out of my pit in the morning as I could hear the rain against the balcony. The sound of raining falling**, the smell of cut grass, sight of a clear blue sky are all imputs to my senses which are interpreted in a positive or at least relaxed manner. Actually I have more 'smells' which are positive than sights or sounds but that's another story. Rain eventually petered out and I rolled out of bed and felt pretty good. Refueled, did a few stretches then rolled out on the bike to North Berwick.

Today was the first time in years that I used clipless pedals. Fitted them to my singlespeed and clipped in with that satisfactory 'clunk' that my cheap LOOK pedals make. I'd also located my heart rate monitor for this journey too so I could more accurately measure how long it took me. Oh and my heartrate. One hour 9 minutes later, with an apparent average heart rate of 153 I arrived in North Berwick (23 miles distance). Problem with riding in any city in any country is the time taken to get out of the built up area as this slows you down considerably.

It was fun and slightly amusing to ride my singlespeed along the coastal road as i'd deliberately chosen a low gear so I could deal with central Edinburgh's hills, this now acted against me as I span the pedals at quite a high rate. My next purchase may be a Computer capable of checking cadence (how fast you pedal). This was partly on purpose too, I know i'd have to spin quickly to keep up the pace and I think I managed it fairly well. Probably could have ridden quicker in the earlier stages as this is where the 153 average came from.

Felt pretty good at the train station in North Berwick briefly considering the ride back (not in my original plan) but canned it almost immediately given the weather (30mph headwind) which was meant to be approaching. I'm trying to be more structured about my training rather than just 'putting in the miles' i'd like to be specific about my objects. I know that I can ride to NB in 1:09, so could I knock those 9 minutes off with my regular bike (which is, coincidentally without a seatpost).

*Well ok not entirely, work was quite frustrating on Friday so I had to go for a swim.
**fine yes technically it is the sound of rain hitting a surface but I don't care.
