Bastet was racing down a hall, moving almost faster than the eye could follow. There were shouts and grunts of pain as she fought her way towards a large door, a man's voice ringing imperiously through the wood.
"Kido Captain Tsukabishi Tessai. For the crime of using forbidden techniques, you will be imprisoned in the underground prison 3, Shugo."
Just a few more men stood between her and her goal, and she moved swiftly, efficiently, leaving motionless bodies in her wake.
"Twelfth Division Captain Urahara Kisuke. For the crimes of researching and invoking a taboo phenomenon, as well as deceiving your colleagues and inflicting grievous injury upon them, you are to be deprived of all reiatsu and forever exiled to the human world! Furthermore, the pitiable victims of your depraved experiments; that is, the captain of squad 5 as well as the other 7 captain-class individuals will be treated strictly as Hollows and dealt with as such."
"Please wait!" Kisuke's voice was frantic and angry. "You can't--"
She finally took out the last of the guards, sliding the door sharply open. Gasps sounded below her as voices raised in affront.
"Who's there?"
"Who gave you permission to enter the meeting hall while we're in the middle of deliberating? Get out, you cur!"
Bastet looked down from the top of a staircase, leaping into the air before landing lightly on the ground behind the two accused men. One was tall, with dark hair and glasses, and odd symbols on the front of his high-collared indigo robe. The other man had messy blond hair and gray eyes, wearing a white robe over a black uniform.
With no effort, she broke the restraints on their hands, the three of them making their escape above cries and angry shouts.
"Seize him! An insurgent! Is anyone there? Anyone?"
They made their escape through the hall filled with still-unconscious bodies. Their flight took them across roofs, flash-stepping at speeds that were almost dizzying to watch; if the memory hadn't been following them, normal human eyes wouldn't have been capable of tracking them at all. In a few minutes, they approached a cliff in the center of the city, Bastet leading them to a room hidden beneath it. A hole in the floor concealed a ladder, leading to a large underground space. It was strangely lit, with rocks and trees scattered about.
"Th-thank you, Yoruichi-san." Kisuke sounded subdued, his face troubled as he and Tessai rid themselves of the last of their restraints.
"I don't need your thanks," Bastet said as she unwrapped the scarf covering her face and hair. Hair which was much shorter than the waist-length she kept it now. "And I'll kick your ass later for not saying anything to me last night." Her voice was casual, as though she hadn't broken countless laws in freeing them.
She motioned to one side, where a group of people lay unconscious in a pile, including one enormous man. Their faces were covered in strange bone masks, white and grotesque. "I carried all eight of them here." She motioned again to a large box. "I also brought the prototype for the new gigai you were researching."
Her face was calm and expectant as she looked at Kisuke. "Hurry and finish this up. I want whatever strategy you came up with for the worst case scenario when you first heard about this from Hirako."
They locked eyes, his face growing sullen as she spoke; cool and defiant, the unspoken volumes a clear sign of their long understanding.
Finally he huffed a soft laugh, his voice low and falsely light as he looked away. "...you foresaw all this? What a creepy person."
"You're one to talk," she replied, her voice quietly sardonic.
Another pause, before he turned to their companion. "Tessai-san, please put Hirako-san and the others under temporal stasis. And then put level two and three barriers around this place." His voice was firm, resolute. "In the next twenty hours, I will make a total of ten reiatsu-blocking gigai. Two for us and eight for Hirako-san and the others."
"What about Yoruichi-dono?" Tessai asked. His voice was low and rumbling, with an oddly formal inflection.
"Don't worry about me," she replied, a wry grin quirking her lips. "I'll get out somehow or another."
Kisuke sounded troubled, but determined when he spoke next. "We'll conceal ourselves in the human world. And slowly but surely, we'll figure it out. The way to undo this Hollowfication."
