Justice's entry reminded me that I should make one of my own. I accepted the position of Guard Captain the other day, and have since been working on getting the unit more organized. We're taking advantage of the relative calm to make plans evacuations, patrols, etc. We'll release more information as it becomes available ( Read more... )

Already accepting bribes on your first day? I suppose if you're open about it, who can complain?

And... alright. I'll be by sometime today, then?

This is my third day, thank you. I have some restraint.

That's fine. I was on shift last night, and I'm not going in to the stall today, so I'll be here.

Forgive me for my assumptions, then. I should have looked into it more.

As usual, I have nothing to do today. Any time would be alright?

Yes, you should have made sure you had all the facts before jumping to conclusions.

In the next few hours would be good. I'd like to get some sleep before too long, and I still need to wash your gift.

How heartless and inconsiderate of me.

...What? And... don't let me keep you from sleeping. You should probably rest if you've been at work all night.

Honestly. I'm well on my way to being completely devastated, here.

It's dirty; I found it under a bush. And I had a few other things to do first, so as long as you show up soon, it'll be fine.

I suppose this is another instance that will go on the list of things I need to make up to you. You mentioned you're accepting bribes, correct?

I'll head over now, then, if that's alright?

I did indeed. And that's fine, I'll see you in a bit.

[It hadn't taken long for Raise to make himself presentable and leave the house to go see Bastet, not wanting to keep her up too long. He is curious, however, as to what Bastet means about finding him a present under a bush. Still, he's not one to be ungrateful.

A knock on the door, and he calls in.]

Bastet?

[...At Praise's comment, he realizes that it's silly to ask if she's there, as obviously she said she was and invited him over. But... well, whatever.]

Come in, Raise!

[she calls over her shoulder from the kitchen sink, her back to the front door. Whatever she's got is making small, high strange noises]

I'm over here. He's almost clean, you can hand me the towel on the counter.

[He's... what? Curiosity overcomes him as he walks in, brows coming together in confusion.]

...Who?

[He slips off his shoes and walks towards the kitchen, picking up the towel. Part of him wonders if he should worry about whatever it is Bastet has.]

What are you...?

[In the sink is a tiny Maltese puppy, in only a few inches of soapy water. He looks up as Raise approaches..shrinking away a bit as Bastet gently pours warm, clean water over him, rinsing away the soap.]

I heard a weird noise under a bush on my way back from work, and when I looked it was him. He doesn't look like any dog I've ever seen, but this guy insisted he actually was one.

Anyway, he's so tiny, I didn't want to just leave him there to get eaten. You like dogs, right?

[snorts]

I mean, if this really is a dog.

[He blinks at the tiny puppy, lips curling in a rather affectionate smile. It's tiny and stupid and adorable.]

...Why wouldn't it be a dog? It's just young, is all. I'm sure baby cats don't look like full grown ones either.

[Raise steps over to reach towards the soaked puppy gently, offering a hand for it to sniff.]

And I do like dogs. He's not the size of Chosen's dog, of course. [Because Siegfried was the size of a horse,] but they come in all sorts of varieties. He's probably just really young, or a small dog...

[He smiles again as the tiny dog touches his finger with a tongue.]

[She's tired, but seeing that look on his face is more than worth the effort she's gone through]

Dogs usually look...I don't know, like regular dogs. He's all fluffy and goofy-looking. Although he does do the whole licking and demanding attention and shoving his head in your crotch that I expect from canines.

[Like Praise, she almost said, but decided not to ruin the moment.]

I guess I've just never seen this breed before.

[He was so small, she didn't even need two hands to pick him up, gently setting him on the towel draped over Raise's hands. The puppy shivered a bit, but sniffed the air, peering up at Raise curiously.]

...Are you thinking of hounds or shepherds? [Raise looks over the little puppy, and he is rather compact, with a short nose... but he still had floppy ears, four legs, and a waggling tail, so it seems dog-like to him.]

I guess the smaller ones look less... doggish than most medium sized dogs, like a lab or something.

[He wraps the damp canine up snuggly in the towel, rather amused at this turn of events. He also mused over the fact that Diva would throw a fit... and Aurora probably would too.] You... didn't have to, you know. I mean, I could have taken him and washed him if you needed to get some sleep. But... thank you.

[Gives him a blank look, then shrugs.]

I don't know. Dog-dogs.

[Her lips twitched as she reached over to loosen the folds of the towel; the puppy blinked, then wriggled forward to lick her fingers]

Let him breathe. And it's all right...I wanted to accustom him to being handled here, where it's quieter. With other people in your house, he might get a little overwhelmed.

[especially since the other people in his house were assholes, but she'd keep that opinion to herself]
