Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:
Yoruichi's greatest strength is perhaps her hand-to-hand combat abilities. Though it's implied that she must have a sword and have trained it to a high level, she has never been seen using one. Whenever confronted with danger, she fights barehanded. While she is rather petite in stature, she possesses an impressive amount of strength and is capable of tossing aside opponents several times her size.
But what Yoruichi is most famous for is her proficiency with shunpo (flash step), an extremely high-speed movement ability. Her prowess in this discipline has earned her the nickname "The Goddess of Flash." Few have been shown to be capable of keeping up with her when she uses it.
Her ability with kidou (demon magic) has not been well-defined, though a particular fighting style of hers suggests a certain amount of proficiency. Shunko (Flash Cry) combines the disciplines of hand-to-hand combat and kidou, generating what appears to be an electrical charge around her entire body. This lends more power to her blows, but she is also able to direct the energy into a projectile attack. However, the latter is still somewhat unwieldy for her, making it more of a last resort than anything.
Besides her fighting abilities, Yoruichi has the ability to shapeshift into a small black cat. While in this form, she can still speak, though her voice is distinctly masculine, which has led to confusion in the past when she returned to her true form. This ability does not seem to have a time limit imposed; she is capable of remaining so for long periods. She uses this power mostly for stealth purposes.
Weapons: None. She's plenty deadly without them.
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
Yoruichi has a very high-class origin, being born into one of the four great noble families of Seireitei. She grew up surrounded by wealth, living in a grand estate and played daily with her good friend Kisuke Urahara, who she continues to have strong ties to.
Eventually, she grew into the position of head of the family, the first woman in her lineage to do so. The Shihouin were a military family as well as a noble one, and the family's head was also traditionally the commander-in-chief of Soul Society's equivalent of the Special Forces. She inherited this mantle along with her rank, also landing the position of Second Division Captain of the Gotei 13.
She tried to discourage formality for the most part, especially for Soifon, her young protégé, with limited success. Yoruichi was a stern commander when she needed to be, but when such was not called for, she tended to take things fairly easy. No point to being super-serious all the time, after all.
Life proceeded normally for a while, until about ten years after, on her reccommendation, her childhood friend Kisuke became Captain of the Twelfth Division. Highly ranked shinigami were disappearing, and she eventually found out that Kisuke and Tsukabishi Tessai stood accused in relation to these events. Well, she wasn't about to stand for that, especially since she knew the allegations to be false.
Going through political channels would just have been a waste of time that she already didn't have, so the only option left was to use force. She broke into the chamber of the Central 46, where the trial was being conducted, and dragged her friends out of danger, stopping in a secret location. Having just breached the law in such a fashion, Yoruichi had little choice but to join them in self-imposed exile.
She had a few loose ends to tie up before she left, so she had the others go on ahead without her. It is during this time that the Pull draws her away from her world.
Point in Canon: Just after the Turn Back the Pendulum arc (Chapter -97)
Character Personality:
Yoruichi is possessed of great intelligence and wit. She's not a genius, but she more than knows what she's doing. When she's not engaged in activities of dire importance, she's very laid-back and free-spirited. Despite her noble upbringing, she's rather informal, perhaps excessively so. She likes nothing better than clever banter with a partner, or shamelessly teasing someone about his or her hangups.
Especially if that hangup is modesty. Yoruichi is not the least bit shy, and this extends to how she feels about her body. She has no compunctions about walking around half-dressed or even naked in the presence of people she barely knows. In fact, it might not even occur to her that she's doing it unless she gets a reaction. And if that reaction is embarrassment . . . Well, prepare to be laughed at and mercilessly mocked. And flashed for no other reason than to make you scream and flail.
As silly as she seems sometimes, when Yoruichi gets serious, it's time to pay attention. She's a harsh taskmaster, even a ruthless one at times. When she speaks, she expects to be obeyed, a legacy of her noble upbringing and time as a military commander. If she thinks someone is being an idiot, she is not above using physical force to rectify the situation - even on her allies.
Yoruichi is capable of being a lady if she absolutely must, but in spite of her high-class origins, her tastes tend toward the more down-to-earth. She's not opposed to frequenting disreputable areas, instead considering the atmosphere invigorating, and is supremely confident in her ability to fend off trouble should it come her way. Anyone who tries something she doesn't like will find themselves on the wrong side of her stone-faced temper - not a safe place to be.
Freewheeling though she can be, Yoruichi often likes to have a plan when it comes to the more serious aspects of her life. She will carefully consider her options before committing to a plan of action. Due to Aizen's recent scheming, she is even more suspicious and wary than usual and thus less prone to giving away any details about herself to those she meets. Anyone who manages to earn her trust gets in return a staunchly loyal friend; she will put herself at great risk to ensure the safety of those she cares for.
Character Plans:
I'd like for Yoruichi to be involved in more plot-heavy roleplaying, as she's the type who would try to figure out what's going on behind-the-scenes. That being said, I'd also enjoy some good, old-fashioned character interaction. She does love to pester people.

Writing Samples
First Person Sample
Voice
[Her tone is suspicious; she's not sure she can trust anyone on the other end, but what else is there to do?]
Exactly what the hell happened? If this is part of some scheme, Aizen, I'll make you regret it. I'm not a toy.
[Screams sound in the distance, and Yoruichi sighs in disgust.]
Well, there's somebody else down. Anyone who's still breathing care to fill me in on the particulars, here? I've already had to beat down a couple of things that look like rejects from a lab, and any info I could get on other threats would be rather appreciated at this point.
Third Person Sample
Yoruichi had never been afraid of the dark. She blended well there, whether she was in her feline form or not; the dark was a place for stealth and grace, and she was well-practiced at such things.
She wasn't afraid now, per se, but tendrils of unease worked through her as she crouched in an alley, eyes searching for new threats. What the hell had attacked her, she could not be sure. The creature had looked like something Kisuke's crazed underling Kurotsuchi might have engineered, which had caused it to lose points with her even before it attacked.
A dull pain throbbed in her forearm, and she suppressed a hiss. Any sound she made now might give away her location to other unfriendly denizens of the night. The damned beast she'd already fought had done a very fine job of bruising that forearm right down to the bone.
She set her jaw as she heard movement behind her. Another one? Like hell she needed this.
In a blur of shunpo, Yoruichi moved from the alley to a nearby rooftop. Perhaps whatever had been behind her was too slow to follow. Hell if she knew, but now was not the time to test the capabilities of anything that stalked her. First came shelter and an opportunity to get her thoughts together.
Briefly, she considered shifting into her feline body. She would have better camouflage that way, have more choice of hiding places . . . But no. This place was still too much of an unknown, and she couldn't be sure that she wouldn't still run into trouble. As a cat, she would be far more vulnerable, and the time it took to change back could prove costly.
She was better off as she was.
Taking to shunpo again - preserving distance was wise in an unfamiliar situation - she blurred from rooftop to rooftop before finally alighting on the ground once more. All right, then. Time to find some cover. And when morning came, it would be time to find out what the hell was going on.
