Tonight was playoff night at our volleyball league at CityBeach. With a record of 24 wins and only 4 losses, we were the #1 seed going into the playoffs. One of our players was out of town, so we planned to play with five. Unfortunately, due to a roster mixup, my name wasn't on the roster. So all I could was sit and watch while the rest of my team attempted to play four on six. They made a valiant effort, but got bounced in the first round of the playoffs.
I don't think anything has ever been quite a frustrating in all the time I've played organized sports. The rule on checking rosters was put in to prevent ringers from coming in a playoff time. Our team had played together all season with only one sub, so we weren't violating the intent of the rule. But somehow a roster change was missed. Our team captain is generally pretty good about this kind of stuff, so at this point, we're not sure if she missed it or if CityBeach missed the change.
Too late now anyways. *sigh*
