So long, fiction

Gone. Twelve yeas of plotting, scheming, writing, dreaming, mad cackling*cough*, all-nighters, bossy betas and pushy reviewers, it's gone. My backup got corrupted, everything else is still on it, but the two folders containing all my stories, snippets, crib notes, ideas, sketches- just gone. Of course also the new additions to the unfinished stories, as well.
One-hundred fifty chapters, over twenty-thousand pages and 40+ stories and ficlets, whoosh. And never mind how much I try to explain people how great a loss it is, they just give me this vague, uncomprehending smile and go:
"Yes, but your homework is safe, right? So, no biggie." Uhm, guys, duh? Homework which consisted merely out of research and reinterpreting what someone else already wrote? I'd rather lost my entire püresentation than one single of my outsketches. And yes, I did run a recovery program -two ones, even. Working simultaneously, trying to find and restore what can be saved. The really old fics are not that big an issue; this ones I got saved on old discs, but the new ones, which I was working on..just thinking about it makes me wanna puke.
Whatever. Not as if anyone besides my readers actually care.
