A quick catch-up

So, life has been very busy recently.

Last week was the grand opening of the newly restored and renovated State Theatre. The schedule went like this:

Saturday, May 4 - Bruce Hornsby. Just Bruce and a piano. He had a great time and went an extra . . . I don't know . . . 90 minutes? . . . longer than the originally scheduled concert run time. And apparently he was very impressed with us (our tech crew, etc.), because he's talked us up to his manager.

Sunday, May 5 - Beasts of the Southern Wild and the making of featurette. These movies were made/produced by the son of one of our Board members and son's partner.

Monday, May 6 - The Courage to Lead: A Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. An excellent one man monologue about how growing up listening to MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech influenced the presenter's life. Not well attended (due to it being a Monday, I suspect), which was disappointing.

Tuesday, May 7 - An Evening of Choral Music. Included 3 local chorales, very well attended and very good. Made me want to join a chorale again.

Wednesday, May 8 - Beleza Brasil. An evening of Latin music and dance. Great show, but a learning experience for everyone, as there was a private party in the black box prior, during intermission, and after. Lots of drinking, and that seems to always get a little out of control in one way or another.

Thursday, May 9 - Crossroads Youth Orchestra. Very well attended, particularly considering the weather. One of our local youth orchestras. A short program, and very entertaining.

Friday, May 10 - BeauSoleil. An evening of Cajun music. (Real, French Cajun.) A grand time. I just wish the dance floor (i.e., the pit area) had been open. They want to come back.

Saturday, May 11 - Lyle Lovett. This was our 75 Anniversary/Grand Opening Gala fundraiser event. Cocktail party for sponsors before. FANTASTIC concert. Unannounced (which was a little problematic) Board party after. Everyone seemed to have a great time, though again, there were some problems with people enjoying the festive adult beverages a little too much. (Though the bartender made an awesome rum-n-cola--with lime even!--that I enjoyed at the end of the evening.)

Sunday, May 12 - Mother's Day movies. Bringing Up Baby and Steel Magnolias Disappointingly attended (21 people for the first movie, 9 for the second), but we were competing with Mother's Day and absolutely gorgeous weather. So, you know. Live and learn.

Monday, May 13 - My first day off in 2 weeks. Oy. I'm still trying to figure out this new schedule, and when I'm going to eat my meals, and get my decent sleep, etc.

Monday we got two new additions to the household, two little calico kittens. Our remaining first generation cat, Isis, is a little put out, but she's adjusting. The kittens are funny and adorable.

Tonight's show is Solas, a great Irish group, and I'm really looking forward to it. Tomorrow is a bridal expo, which I'm really not looking forward to, but whatever, you know?

I haven't been to church all month, and I really, really miss it. I've had to drop out of my Beth Moore Bibles study, which is very disappointing. (I might purchase the package as a download and re-do the whole thing. Book of James. Good, good stuff.) Hopefully we'll at least get to go to small group tomorrow night.

So that's where I've been recently. Now, time to get something to eat.
