Our boiler is being replaced. On the coldest day of the year.
The old boiler was 52 years old. A big, cast iron beast of a thing, and the inside was all broken and nasty and grody. The boiler tech said that it was releasing carbon monoxide into our air. (To which Geo and I went, "Oh! Maybe that's why we're so sleepy so early!" We thought it was because of the long winter nights.)
So last night, we slept in front of the fireplace. The techs are back again today to finish the installation.
The new boiler is much smaller, and looks very steampunk with all its copper tubing. My first comment when I saw it was, "It looks like a still." The techs chuckled.
No snow, though, and we've had a very mild winter thus far. (60˚F in January. Really?) But yesterday and today are cold (10˚F right now, 58˚F in the house), and I'm going to go take a hot shower to get ready for work.
I started re-watching the Doctor-Donna season of Doctor Who while I do my treadmilling. I really do love that season. I love the relationship between Donna and the Doctor. I love Donna. I want to raid her wardrobe. Theirs was such a deep and abiding and mutual friendship, and I love it muchly. And knowing that the actors have done outside projects together, it makes me wonder if they were friends beforehand, or if their friendship began with DW.
Regarding "Torn and Frayed" . . . the more I watch the last scene(s), the more fascinated I am by it/them, and the more I hope TPTB really do justice to the repairing of the brothers' relationship. It looks to me as if Sam wanted to clink beer bottles--all is well--but Dean made no such move. I can almost hear Sam telling Dean, "I'm here. I gave up Amelia. Onward." But Dean just kind of looks at him. He had to cut off his friend, his comrade, the one who got him out of Purgatory, the one to whom he owes his life. The one whose word he's learned to trust, and who has never (yet) let him down. He'll never forget what Benny did for him, and he's a little gutted to have cut him loose, particularly when it could mean that Benny goes bad. Dean is not ready for the "all is well, we're together" toast. And Sam nods his understanding. If played properly, we'll get to see them both work to get back to that point.
Here's hoping it gets played properly.
