New TV this season

Not SPN related.

I'll pause to give you a moment to recover.

You ready?

Okay.

Geo and I have added two shows to our viewing schedule this season: Revolution and Arrow

Oy. Why? Why must it be 40 minutes of "I don't care. Not watchin' next week" followed by, "Okay, that was interesting. Dang! I'm gonna have to watch next week, aren't I." Seriously. The premise should be intriguing. It should be downright action/adventure fascinating. And yet.

And yet, I don't care. I don't care about any of the characters. And when I do start to think that maybe I might care, the story goes off in a different direction.

And as is SOP, Kripke has killed off one of the characters already. How many eps in? Four? I think? Anyway. Also seeing recycled SPN actors. Mark Pellegrino (sp?) was in an ep, and the girl who has the lead played Comatose!Callie in "Bedtime Stories". This most recent ep was just brutal in the beating people department. Ugh.

I also keep wondering . . . electricity is a new invention. Civilizations have risen and fallen without electricity. This country was founded without electricity. Why would the government shut down? What about steam power? What about the Amish? And the survivalists? And the ingenious SCA peeps who create hot and cold running water with almost nothing for PennSic? What about the engineers and historians and geeks who know about all this stuff, and can get things working again? Surely not all the cops who had guns at the time of the Blackout went bad? I mean, all of this will come out in backstory, right? It's been explained why steam-powered sailing vessels are not to be had. (Still, I'm not impressed.)

Oh, and what about the rest of the world where electricity is non-existent or sketchy at best?

Suspension of disbelief is a wonderful and necessary thing, and if I felt more for the characters, I could probably do it. But as it is, I'm not too engaged.

Not sure how much longer we're going to give it.

Arrow, otoh, has been cheesy light-weight fun. Admittedly, it only gets part of my attention, because I'm usually crocheting while I watch, but it's cheesy fun. And I totally did not recognize Kate Cassidy in the pilot. My favorite character thus far is Digs.

Oh! And the actress playing the mom played the mom in Still Life. Did I mention that? I knew her voice right off.

So anyway. Arrow. Fun so far. Will see how it goes.
