This is why I don't watch awards shows.

So, as I'm sure everyone has heard by now, SPN won not only Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy show, but also the big one--Favorite Network Drama.

Much cheering!

However, no one from the cast, crew, or production were . . . get this . . . invited. Not just that they weren't in attendance (that happens sometimes). They weren't invited.

To accept their major award that is not a leg lamp. But which is Waterford crystal, and therefore, fragile.

I can't tell you the last time I watched the Oscars, the Emmys, or even the Tonys. Or the People's Choice awards. It's all about who has the best publicity machine, who has the right connections, who's the critically acclaimed actor du jour.

And the PCA are far from an accurate assessment of what's really most popular, what with being able to vote multiple times and all.

But here's the thing. Favorite Network Drama. Big, BIG item on the agenda. Supernatural won. Wouldn't expect them to get invited for winning Favorite Sci-Fi. The industry doesn't take speculative fiction seriously--not on TV, anyway. But Favorite Network Drama? That's HUGE!

It would be one thing if the guys were invited and didn't attend due to scheduling conflicts. I mean, heck, they're busy making our favorite show. Not being able to attend because of the shooting schedule makes sense.

But not even to be invited? To make an appearance and strut their stuff on the red carpet? To, you know, put themselves out there for career purposes?

Poor form, PCA. Poor form, indeed.

Personally, I think it's because the Hollywood establishment is scared of them. They're not "Hollywood." They do their job, stay out of the tabloids, behave professionally. And they (especially Jensen, imo) are crazy talented.

I'm not particularly miffed that they didn't attend. I am surprised and miffed on their behalf that they weren't even invited.

And this is why I'm not particularly bent out of shape that the "industry" isn't "recognizing" them. When the likes of the Kardashians is what sells? I'm not interested. I'll watch my little genre show with the amazing actors and I'll enjoy it.

And long after this PCA is forgotten, and the Waterford crystal is gathering dust, Jensen's and Jared's hard work, talent, and graciousness will still be there.

As long as they're enjoying their work and I'm enjoying watching their work, I'm good.

jared padalecki, awards, jensen ackles, blah
