"The Season Thus Far . . . "

Um, maybe not. Anyway . . .

So with only ten days left until we get new eps of SPN (and none too soon), I started re-watching what's aired thus far this season. And this morning's viewing was "Good God, Y'all." This is, for my money, one of the best eps of the season. Awesome guest stars, great villain, and use of Scripture in a way that actually makes sense and works and is, imo, actually very cool. (Kripke? Seriously. You could take a pointer or two from Sera.)

A couple things hit me on re-watch:

1) I really miss Ellen and Jo. Why, Kripke? *shakes fist* Why?

2) The situation with Rufus, Jo, and Sam could have been sooo easily fixed with handful of brief lines, something like this:

Sam is tied to the chair. Jo has just doused him in holy water.

Sam: Jo. Rufus. Please, listen to me. Just . . . Just . . . Look at my tatt.

Jo: What?

Sam: My tattoo. Under my collar.

Jo steps forward and reaches for Sam's collar. Rufus pulls her back by the arm.

Rufus: Jo. Don't. Get away from him.

Rufus steps forward and roughly pulls down Sam's collar, first the right side, revealing nothing, then the left, revealing the anti-possession tattoo.

Sam: See? It's permanent. There's no way I could be possessed.

Rufus rubs at the tatt to make sure the ink is, indeed, permanent.

Sam: Dean's got one just like it. (Jo's brow twitches.) No way either one of us can be possessed. I don't know what's going on here, but whatever it is, Dean and I are here to help.

Rufus and Jo look appropriately apologetic.

Of course, then we'd have to find another way of making the big reveal about War and such. And I love the scene of smart!Dean and Ellen figuring it all out. So, no. What I just wrote would totally not work. But I just couldn't help but think today that showing Rufus and Jo, heck, Ellen, too, the tatts would have gone a long way to avoid certain confusions.

Oh, and BTW, the end scene still tears me up.
