Things that have made me smile recently . . .

They're running three of John Hughes's most popular films this month at the NAVCC. Saturday night, Geo and I went to see Ferris Bueller's Day Off. That movie just makes me grin. I'd forgotten how much fun it is, how clever and light and funny. It came out the summer between my junior and senior year of high school, adn I was never really into the "teen comedies." So I didn't see it in the theater. But someone insisted that I watch it on HBO, and it's just hilarious!

The past several days, I've woken up in the morning with music running through my mind. This usually only happens when I'm working on a musical. I go to sleep singing one song from the show and wake up singing another. The past several days, it's been either praise music from church or Jason Manns music. I like when I wake up with a song in my head. Does it mean there's a song in my heart?

I've finally got a recipe for homemade mac-and-cheese that seems to work well. Not exactly what I was looking for, but you don't have to pre-cook the pasta, and I'm all about not having to pre-cook anything. I'll post the recipe in a separate entry.

I'd forgotten how entertaining this show is. It's funny, because it's real. These are real characters with real faults and real humor that stems from those faults. The timing and interplay are delightful to watch. Plus, it speaks to me of a time in my life that's long gone.

(It occurs to me that if Jensen wants to do half-hour comedy, he totally needs a vehicle like this.)

The other day, Geo bought a hanging lamp for our screened-in back porch. That night, he lit the lamp and another one we have, and sat out watching the lightening bugs and listening to the sounds of living in the county. Such a change from living in Springfield. I'll admit that sometimes I miss the city--the convenience of things right there, the theater, the excitement--but we are so blessed to have the house and land that we have now. Gorgeous views, quiet neighbors, clear skies . . . it's just beautiful.

Once upon a time, many years ago, there was a very cute blond boy who joined the cast of Days of Our Lives. Now, I only watched DoOL when I was in college, and only the storyline I liked, and only because my roommate watched it. And that was several years before this young up-and-comer joined the cast.

This cute young guy has grown into a very handsome man and quite a talented actor. I am, of course, most familiar with his more recent work. Still, it's nice to see where he came from.
