Wouldya look at that? I kind of won something:
Namely, Best New Author Runner Up at Round 31 of SunnyD Awards. (The runner up is the "kind of" part.) This is my first time participating in any kind of fanfic award. Needless to say, I'm bewildered and flabbergasted.
I'm assuming this means that a number of people, likely more than one, enjoyed my stories, which is always fantastic news! (My Imposter Syndrome-y inner voice concedes that it's possibly, potentially, logically, and statistically unlikely that everyone who voted for me entered my name by mistake. Probably.)
(Unless that, of course, there was this great, big Emergency. Top severity. Involving global security. Very urgent. Code level "B4" which means you solve it before you call it a day. Something that could've gone apocalyptic (as prophesied in the Pergamum Codex). A high enough bellwether threshold had been exceeded such that it alerted Torchwood and summoned the Aurors from the Ministry and paged the elder Mr. Holmes and...well, you get the idea. The Avengers were on their way. Extraordinary civilians were called upon for assistance. And everyone had to rush there after hastily casting their vote, because that's just the kind of people they are, always eager to volunteer their time and lend a helping hand, you know, with fandom citizenship a good indicator of global citizenship. And that's why they didn't discover their mistake in time. Understandably, they were pre-occupied with the grave matter of war and peace. An Internet emergency, as it turned out, that could trigger crippling, rippling effects, which explains how everyone across different locales was called to help, except for me, because obviously, I wasn't invited. I must've failed some membership test. Should've done something different. Faster or more clever, you know? I dreamed of passing the test. Dozens of times, lots of different ways. Not when it counted, of course, but...after that. Every night after that...)
...
Anyway, I'm reminded that I haven't written much lately, excepting a ficlet here and there. So...yeah...must strive to earn at least the "author" part of the title, let alone any kind of superlative. The "new" part has been steadily degrading. No help at all.
Never mind that. If you're looking for stories to read, the
Sunnydale Awards Round 31 winners and
nominees lists, while by no means exhaustive, make for great fanfic recommendations. Check out some of the fantastic stories there!
