Dawn goes down to day

Life and fandom converge, part 2: I was mulling over whether to switch from the use of narrative writing to descriptive writing for a phone call between Buffy and Giles for a one-shot that keeps threatening to morph into a long fic (No! Bad story!) when the background music penetrated the mental fog:

So dawn goes down to day
No gold can stayIt ( Read more... )

poetry, btvs, dawn, ask my flist, robert frost, fandom discussion, writing, ficlicious, recommendations

And readers of the classic The Outsiders might remember that's the poem that Ponyboy teaches Johnny, and Johnny uses as a farewell when he dies. "Stay gold, Ponyboy!"

Robert Frost always.

And because my mind cannot resist linking anything remotely connected, I thought the fact that The Outsiders has a klepto character was an interesting coincidence too!

Didn't know you were still checking LJ these days (which is great!). Hope all's well! :)

Once and while something comes up on Dreamwidth but 95% of posted items will show up on LJ.

Do mean something like these which are just from a Google search.

Wow, Google Image Search can filter by "usage rights" these days? That's a-mazing! How did I not know this? Thanks!

Two of the better fics ever by amazing writers.

I'm not aware of anything specific at DW - Seasonal Spuffy was on there for a couple of rounds, but no one was very happy about it, so it's back to LJ now. It's not possible to mirror communities (last time I asked), although cross posting individual journals is easy and automatic.

I can send/give you some photos of cherry blossom trees if you'd like?

That'd be great! You still have my gmail account address? (It's also on my profile page, visible to friends.) Thanks!

Agree - when they switch over to DW that is when I stopped doing Season Spuffy - it was just easier to post at LJ - have everything in once place instead of trying to do all the links between two sites.

I don't like poetry very much, but First Aid Kit! I love Wolf Mother and The Lion's Roar.

Well, think of poems as song lyrics not yet set to music. I do love both of the songs you listed. Klara has such a beautiful voice.

Whereas I listen to songs more as atmospheres and generally ignore the lyrics. It's much more about what the song sounds like and how it makes me feel.

And that's just fine.

In fact, in anaross' fic mentioned above, a poetry-teaching Spike is seen repeatedly correcting his students in saying: Don't ask what a poem means, ask what it feels.

You've already mastered the lesson. :)

I like to search the Wiki Commons for images - people who allow their images for use have them listed with requirements for use listed and the copyright free images at Wiki Commons are a great resource. There is another site, sorry I don't have a link, I think it is called public domain pictures -

And BIG THANKS for remembering Nan Dibble -

I just found out that when you do a Google Image Search, under "Search tools", there's an option for "Usage rights", where you can filter by usage rights. I'm filtering by "Labeled for noncommercial reuse with modification" which should mean I can Photoshop them anyway I want. :)

I joined fandom too late to have known Nan Dibble personally. But a person shouldn't be forgotten just because they're gone.
