I think most of the orgasmic vampire stuff comes from Graduation Day (Part I???) when Angel bites Buffy - it's shot in a way that basically says Buffy orgasms when he bites her, but then she also ends up in hospital, so it doesn't come across as a particularly ringing endorsement!

I don't have much of a problem with it as a kinky sex thing per se, but find it very difficult to get with the realism (because the whole coagulant vampire spit thing makes no sense to me). If it's a shallow bite, it's not really anything different from what Buffy could give Spike, but if it's a deep (proper!) vampire bite then that's just something very, very messy to bring to the proceedings and generally pretty dangerous whether he's going in for the kill or not. It's like when humans are bashed over the head to knock them unconscious - fine; but there's always a risk you're going to kill someone by doing that, because there's no magical divide between a concussion that knocks you out for three hours and one that kills you, unless I'm much mistaken. It's just pure luck.

I'd completely blocked that out, as it very nearly kills Buffy (probably not something anyone without a death wish wants done on a regular basis). Ugh, corrected.

It's such a martyr scene. But then again, orgasmic ecstasies are nothing new to Catholic martyrs. (The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa comes to mind.)
