I love them. Yeah, I know, it's probably kind of dorky, but ever since I picked up my first issue of The X-men (the one based on the Fox cartoon show) sitting on the bottom shelf of the magazine rack in Chillicothe, I've been hooked. That was in 3rd or 4th grade, and after that I started picking up every version of The X-men that came out, among other things including Sonic the Hedgehog and The Maxx (anybody know that one??).
Anyways, what I'm getting to is that yesterday I finally paid a visit to OSU's Cartoon Research Library located somewhere in the Wexner. That place has everything! Apparently researchers from all over the world come there to do their research because it has so much. The library worker told me that last week someone came from Finland and Germany to study some 1920's and 30's comics to see how women were being depicted and the roles they played. Isn't that the coolest thing ever? I can't believe the library is that comprehensive!
The reason I went there was to get my hands on some Japanese manga that I can't find in stores (not that I would pay for it anyways), which the library happens to have written in Japanese! The only draw back is that you can't actually check stuff out and you have to sit in the (freezing!) room to read. I guess I can deal with that, though, since the librarians will hold the stuff for you so you can comeback if you can't finish reading in one sitting. At least its something to do if you're on campus and bored/wanting to put off some homework ;-)
