what a crazy few weeks this has been. things in March slowed down considerably after my birthday. i sat around and filled in application forms and waited for my visa to arrive.
it finally came at the end of march after 2 whole months of waiting and my handing over of a princely sum of £500. you cannot imagine how relieved i was. i had been applying for jobs the past couple of months but hadn't been shortlisted for any and i wasn't sure if it was a) my applications suck or i was doing it wrong or b) they say my work permit status and didn't think i was worth the trouble of dealing with immigration. personally, i know i wouldn't.
but getting my visa meant more than just being able to apply for jobs and be judged on merit but also that i had my passport back and i could go back to Singapore to attend my friends' wedding! (Congrats again, j!!!) i had a great time back home even though it was so short (6 and a half days??) i met up with people who took time out of their own crazy schedules to do lunch, dinners and suppers with me (bitch fests!), i went to the zoo (yay!), hung out with my nephews and nieces (they're so big now!), saw my younger brother for the first time in more than a year (he's still the same), saw friends whom i hadn't see in years (at least 8!) who were in town for the wedding and most importantly, we all made it to sentosa to see my friend walk down the aisle!
while i was in singapore- i applied for 2 jobs (hee hee...the time difference was really toying with my mind. i submitted an application that was 4 hours past the deadline in Singapore but 4 hours before the deadline in London hee hee) and received an e-mail that I had been shortlisted for an interview exactly a week after i return to London. (can i also say here how glad is it that i made it back to the UK before the volcano decided to go nuts! a day later and i would most probably still be stranded in Singapore today.)
it's been a bit insane since i've been back- i fell properly ill for the first time in ages. cough, flu, phelgm the works. plus the fact that i have another application due on the 19 beside the interview doesn't help either. i hammered out a research proposal in 2 days instead of the usual 5(i still don't think it's very good and i might re-do the whole thing again today) and my schedule is all booked up till the end of april.
but i'm not complaining- for someone who is jobless and slowly watching her savings deplete while she frantically looks for a job, i don't feel particularly stressed out about the way things are going. maybe 3 months down the road, if i'm still jobless, i might feel differently but right now it seems as if there are opportunities out there and all i have to do is make sure that i don't let them slip by.
keep your fingers cross for me for monday :)
