Went to see Little Birdy at The Tivoli last night, and they were fantastic. I almost didn't go because I left it until yesterday morning before work to try and find someone to go with, but luckily Zoe agreed to come along. We got to the venue a bit before 8 and bought our tickets, only to find out once we were inside that Little Birdy weren't going to start until 10:30. We decided to head into the valley until it got closer to that time, but the bouncer wouldn't let us out until they had closed the box office in another half an hour. This turned out to be an enormous advantage for us, because not long after, with the ampitheatre relatively empty, the first supporting act came on. It was a female singer from WA by the name of Abbe Fuzz. The lack of people meant that we could go right up to the edge of the stage to watch her. I hadn't heard of her before, but she was really good. She had a really powerful blues/folk style which at times reminded me of Cat Power. We stayed put, and after about 45 minutes the second support came on. It took me a long while to realise who The Red Riders were but it eventually clicked that they're the band whose song "Slide in next to me" has been getting a flogging on Triple - J recently. The Red Riders were very energetic and although I mightn't really have liked their stuff otherwise, it was quite enjoyable live. At 10:30 Little Birdy came on and blew everyone away. They played a lot of stuff off their new album, but also quite a few older songs as well. Luckily for Zoe and I we'd managed to hold onto our spots from earlier in the night and were standing 1 row back from the stage, directly in front of the singer. She looked stunning, and the band played extremely well. I kept getting inched further away from stage by people trying to get in closer, but being the tallest person in the mosh, it didn't really matter and I could see everything perfectly. Definitely the best gig I've been to in a very long while.
Now I look forward to 4 months of relative freedom in the form of uni holidays. I'm hoping to make at least 1 film this holiday, watch a great many films which i've been meaning to, play more computer games and see more live music. We'll see how I go...
