Summary: What happens when Ohno gets lost, and meets someone who is not quite like him?
His mind was blank. It was weird, he knew. From the various events that occurred successively, one after another, his mind should be reeling from the sudden eruption of information.
But, his mind was surprisingly blank. But to be thinking about whether his mind was blank or not meant that he was indeed thinking about something wasn’t he? So if one is aware of their minds being blank then their minds are not exactly blank either right? He wondered why he was wondering about such a queer topic such as this. Now’s not the time.
Thump thump thump, his footfalls on the carpeted ground followed a steady tempo. Dispersed amongst that steady rhythm was the sound of Aiba’s flustered half-jog. “Hurry!” Aiba whispered urgently.
What would Ohno be able to do even if he was there? He wants to help them, he really does. But can he? Jun’s there isn’t it? Jun is resourceful. Jun is smart. Jun will be able to do something. Then they should be fine, they can count on Jun to protect them. And maybe, thinking that he has Jun to help him is just his way of shirking responsibilities. A manifestation of his fear that if everything fails, then having someone else share this responsibility will save him from the crushing weight of guilt of failure that he knew was to come. Then again, he was the one who dragged them all to the capital. It was never Jun’s responsibility to bring them back safe. It was all Ohno’s to begin with.
He didn’t know if he had the strength, the wit, to handle anything that was about to come. Nevertheless, Ohno sped up and rounded the last corner.
Suddenly, Aiba stopped and Ohno walked right into Aiba’s back.
“Umph!”
“Sorry, sorry!” Aiba whipped around and grabbed hold of Ohno’s shoulder to steady him before he falls. He looked around frantically, as if hiding from someone.
“Look Oh-chan, I need to hide.” Another furtive glance. “I cannot afford to be caught by them too! Sho-chan wouldn’t like that. He went through so much to free me!” Aiba looked torn between stomping into the room and bolting in the opposite direction.
“Please…” It’s those lightly green tinged eyes again. They are boring into Ohno’s own eyes. Then suddenly, they were gone as Aiba looked down. “Please…” this time, his voice cracked. “you’ve got to save him.” Those simple words came out as a murmur. But the pain, to be masked by the soft garbled words, was conversely loud and clear. “I need him.”
With that, Aiba let go of Ohno’s shoulder as abruptly as he first grabbed hold of them. As silently as he could, Aiba sped through the corridor in the other direction, away from the meeting room which Ohno assumed was where everything bad was taking place.
His mind was still blank. What was he going to say when he enters the room? What can he say to free them all? He hates that his mind is blank. But he didn’t know how to un-blank his mind. It’s like pouring water into a hole dug in the sand. You try to fill it up with buckets of water. One bucket, two buckets, three. You keep pouring, but somehow, all the water just slips away before you even manage to pour in the next bucket in to make the water pool. It was frustrating, but it cannot be helped. Ohno hopes he has something good to say that will benefit them.
Perhaps, it’s good that he doesn’t think much. Look at what happened, when he tried to think 10 minutes ago. He hurt Nino, deeply. He doesn’t know if Nino will ever forgive him. Why does it hurt that much to see Nino’s pained expression? He shouldn’t think. Thinking is bad for him. He shall just take things as it comes. Ohno enters the room.
“I told you, give me a little time and I’ll find them for you. See, I’ve gathered them all here for you.” Jun was gesturing widely at Sho and Nino, who Ohno was appalled to see tied up and gagged.
“Well, I guess you’re right.” A burly man admitted reluctantly. He was huge even for a guy and he’s muscled body was obvious even underneath the layers of clothes. He skin-bald head reflected the light from the chandelier hanging above. A few other men, though not as scary looking, but intimidating enough, stood around Sho and Nino, forming a human wall.
“Gathered…?” Ohno murmured. “Jun… what is the meaning of this?”
Nino was shooting daggers at Jun, from his eyes. If that could literally happen, then Jun would be dead many times over by now.
“What you are seeing now is exactly what it means.” Jun said irritably, his arms crossed.
Ohno frowned. What in the devil’s world did he mean by that? Nino and Sho are gagged and restrained and there Jun is, who doesn’t look like he’s doing anything to save them. He thought he could at least count on Jun! And here he is, standing around, crossing his arms and looking just like …?!
Jun is part of them, the “authorities”. Wasn’t he?
Ohno didn’t know what to do but stand and gape at Jun. Jun, apparently bored of Ohno’s lack of reaction, gave a lazy wave and walked out of the door.
“Come on boys, let’s head back already. Oh yeah,” he turned back only to smirk at Ohno. “Ohno-san, it was nice knowing you. See you never!”
With that, he strode out of the door, with Nino and Sho struggling against their restraints as the burly man drags them along. Ohno caught a last glimpse of Nino’s face right before they turned the corner. And he knows what he has to do.
He has to save them.
