#002 Television and Memories

This is going pretty well so far.

Meteor Garden
One day when I was about 13, I was walking the well-trodden path from my bedroom to the kitchen, when my mother stopped me and insisted I watch the Asian drama she was currently watching with her. It was Meteor Garden, and I may have agreed because of all the attractiveness I was seeing on-screen. Or maybe I just like my mother and wanted to hang out with her. My motives were unclear.

My mother had obtained VCDs1 of the series in Indonesia, so all the episodes were in Mandarin with Indonesian hard-subs. My mother speaks Indonesian, but was learning Mandarin at the time, so watching it with her was an interesting language lesson. I remember talking about Meteor Garden with Nat and Chinz -- Nat has some pretty embarrassing anecdotes about my love of Meteor Garden which I won't repeat here because I was thirteen okay.

Anyway, I was also pretty obsessed with the soundtrack; I listened to F4 a lot, along with the show's theme song (情非得已 by Harlem Yu), and what I assume was the ending song (你要的愛 by Penny Dai).

Lots of feeeeelings!

Fangirling F4 in my early teens is pretty much the extent of my boyband phase. I was an Asian boyband fangirl before it was cool LIKE A FUCKING HIPSTER. YEAH.
