This is why Jamie and Kate didn’t have a baby earlier

Kate Mara and Jamie Bell are parents to a healthy, gorgeous baby girl as of May. The new mom is joyously celebrating while giving homage to a painful miscarriage she kept private until a recent episode of Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast.

The two actors met on the set of “Fantastic Four” in 2015. She decided to take a pregnancy test after having a dream about being pregnant.

“I turned to him, and I was like, ‘Is now a bad time to show you this?’ ” she said. “I showed him the stick. He was, like, at a stop light, and he just burst out laughing and was like, ‘Oh, my God. How is that possible?”

At the first ultrasound, however, the worrying began. The technician couldn’t find the embryo, and she got a blood panel to determine if she’s pregnant. Anyone who has gone through a miscarriage can relate to Mara’s words in the podcast as she shares holding out hope even in the face of almost certain bad news.

The actress learned she had a blighted ovum, where the embryo doesn’t grow despite the egg being fertilized.

“I didn’t know what that was at the time. I’ve learned what that is. So she said, ‘Basically, you’ve miscarried, but it just hasn’t left your body yet.’ ”

Unfortunately, it took over three months for her to fully miscarry. The medication she took didn’t work, and she couldn’t close out that chapter and mourn her loss.

Mara also expressed the worry upon finding out she was expecting again. Fortunately, the baby girl is healthy and bringing joy to the Bell house!
