There're lot of stuff from the last two days during Kingsman's SDCC promotional tour.
(1) New red-band
trailer. I think Channing has one of the best lines (the line was changed to an ineffective "yes, it is" in the green-band trailer).
(2) Channing will do a Cowboy(?)
dance in the movie which would make his family in Alabama really happy, esp. uncle Bruce from his mother's side. Uncle Bruce has a farm and Channing spent a lot of time there when he was young (Video
link starting around 1'22").
(3) Channing took Agent Tequila's
flask belt buckle home as a souvenir.
(4) Channing is a big fan of the first movie because he was a street kid, he would like to be picked up on street and become a spy. So he begged to be on the second movie.
(5) During SDDC Kingsman 2 panel, they showed a scene of Tequila's meeting with Eggsy and Merlin.
The other scene was from a little later in the movie. Eggsy and Merlin are in Kentucky, at the Statesman Whiskey facility, home to the Kingsman’s American counterparts. They’re on a tour but break off, where Eggsy finds a hidden panel and questions why there’s a high-tech biometric security scanner in a whiskey storage building. He and Merlin hack it and walk inside, where they detect a large structure in the floor and decide the entrance is masked by a huge barrel of whiskey. Merlin grabs an axe, and just as he hacks into the barrel, Channing Tatum (reportedly named Agent Tequila) arrives.
He’s mad that his facility has been broken into and asks Eggsy and Merlin who they are. They explain they work for the fine UK tailor shop Kingsman; Tequila has heard of it but asks how a couple of tailors hacked their security. Merlin realizes there’s gonna be trouble so he lifts his hand off the barrel, which he’s been using to plug the hole he in the whiskey barrel he made with the axe. Out pours a bunch of whiskey. Tequila sprits across the room and plugs the leak before announcing that by wasting 1963 reserve, now they’ve made it personal. A fight begins but Tequila quickly grabs Eggsy’s arm, presses a few buttons on his watch, and shoots the young man with his own stun dart. “Who are you?” asks Eggsy as he passes out.
During the panel discussion, Taron Egerton commented on the strength of Channing and said "don't get into a fight with Channing Tatum". Host Johnathan teased that "some of us might enjoy the experience". Then Ross asked if Channing was impressed by Taron's physical presence, strenghth, ability and masculinity. Channing as charming as he always is, says "No." After a pause he continued to say "he is unbelievable talented, maybe not in the strength area, he's unbelievable."
(6) Another interesting story is about a prank. There was a
video showing Channing put a lot of sex toys in Taron's trailer. But now we know Taron started it.
“The simple story is that Taron thought he was funny and he put some pillows in my bed and a wig on the pillow to make it look like someone was sleeping in my bed. And I walked in and went, ‘Oh, that’s cute. You think you’re funny, I guess,” he told news.com.au, shrugging his shoulders.
“So, I happened to be leaving London in a week and I was like, ‘What am I going to do? Am I going to validate this as even an attempt of a prank?’” He cracks up laughing.
“So, on my last night, as we wrapped, I realised, ‘Yeah!’ So I went and spent about 1,500 pounds ($A2400) at a sex shop. I bought everything I could afford and everything that they had, pretty much. Then I filled Taron’s trailer with it.”
Apparently the finishing touch was a carefully placed blow-up doll in Egerton’s shower. Tatum laughs. “Yes I have to say, I am very proud of it.”
But Tatum didn’t have the pleasure of seeing Egerton’s reaction to his fine work.
“No, but a video was sent to me of him seeing it,” he laughs. “It was pretty epic.”
(7) The movie will be about 135-min long.
(8) Colin Firth tried on Elton John's costume. Colin also borrowed Channing's
cowboy hat.
(9) The cast did numerous interviews with different media outlets. In this
video (starting around 1'30") from ScreenJuckies (they produce the Honest Trailers show), one of the hosts Andy Signore was very impressed with Channing. He mentioned Channing could remember one of his colleagues Roth Cornet's name after a 10 or 15 minute interview and said bye to her off camera. That must be rare considering how many strangers these stars meet in one day.
That's all for Kingsman, now some news about Gambit and Logan Lucky. Channing told the press:
I think we got super, super lucky. I think a lot of setbacks, we'll look at them in hindsight as giant blessings. Because we were making it, [and] we're writing a movie right at the turn of a paradigm shift in movies. So we got lucky that we didn't just come out with ours, which I don't think was fully formed. It was a good idea. We were going in the right direction. And then we got to learn from two really beautifully different kinds of a complete paradigm shifts... like Logan and Deadpool, I mean, they knocked down a lot of doors for us to be able to do things that we wanted to do in the first place.
Tatum went on to say that the Gambit movie could really benefit from the current "rebirth" that's happening in the X-universe, with Deadpool building his own cinematic mythology, and the X-Men finding their way in the world without Wolverine. Next year alone, FOX will unveil the New Mutants, while X-Men: Dark Phoenix will sandwich Deadpool 2. Channing Tatum told CinemaBlend that he "hopes to God" that Gambit can bring a panel to San Diego Comic-Con next year. We shall see.
I wish him luck on the Gambit movie. Over the last two years, Channing didn't work a lot of in front of the camera. But his producing credits are growing. From Magic Mike Live, to the upcoming Amazon show "Comrade Detective" (finished) to YouTube's "Step Up: High Water (currently filming). He seems to be the kind of person who will not give up easily. I admire him for that.
Logan Lucky release date is less than a month away. There're a few advanced screenings. In a recent interview Channing revealed that both Logan Lucky and Kingsman 2 use the song "Take Me Home Country Roads". I used to love John Denver's version of this song a lot. In a tweet, someone also mentioned about a song used in the end of Logan Lucky. I assume it will be this song. I also read a Twitter review by the president of Theatre Management Associates John Shaw, calling Logan Lucky a "brainless light comedy has funny moments and enough story to produce a good ending. Moderate business 35-45M."
Finally, a gif of Channing Tatum and Jeff Bridges having fun. It's a bit surreal because Channing was Burt Gurney in Hail Caesar! and Jeff was the Dude from The Big Lebowski, two of Coen Brothers' films.
PS, the Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Universal is polishing the script for Van Helsing, aimed for Channing Tatum. So random. I don't buy it.
