Hail Caesar Reviews Are In

Hail Caesar reviews are in. It is 76% on RottenTomatoes.com now (79 reviews). But on Twitter, earlier reviews are quite split in the middle. Half enjoys it for what it is, half is disappointed, calling it a mess.

So the basic ideas I get are:

(1) The movie has structural flaws and no plot.

(2) Alden Ehrenreich has the second biggest role, after Josh Brolin.

(3) Alden Ehrenreich is praised by a lot of people. I remember him from Blue Jasmine and Beautiful Creatures. I have not watched the movie (will see it tomorrow), so I don't know if his character has scenes with Channing's Burt. But I kinda of ship them.

(4) Channing has a small role, but more screen time than Jonah Hill and ScarJo.

(5) "No Dames" (the song) is 4'24" long. The song was written by Henry Krieger, sung by Channing Tatum, choreographed by Christopher Gatelli. This scene was planned the same way tap numbers were done in the 40's and 50's. Channing learned the song and the choreography. A piano and vocal recording of the song was played back on set, along with a recording of the tap sounds to guide his dancing. Then the real arrangement, by Sam Davis, was recorded at Avatar Studios in New York, to match the edit of the scene.

(6) Channing's big dance number is universally hailed. I only see one girl saying she felt Channing didn't put his heart into it (because he didn't smile enough in the sequence?).

I will judge it myself, but I think I will love CT's dance scene like this guy. BTW, I hear that CT looks GREAT in the movie.

Finally, a Clooney/Tatum interview. I feel Channing has better off-set chemistry with Clooney than with Matthew McConaughey. I maybe biased. I just don't like McConaughey that much. I always remember him as the shirtless dude with Lance Armstrong as a running buddy.
