Penny Dreadful Season 2

Over the weekend, I binge-watched Penny Dreadful Season 2. Story wise, I don't think the show has progressed much. But I do like the way the characters mingled with each other in this season. Basically you can ship anyone with everyone. Eva Green's Vanessa Ives is becoming a saint, you know, she is so kind to everybody. I still feel Eva is over acting on this show, but she is such a rare beauty, so I quite enjoy watching her on screen. And I especially like her scenes with Harry Treadaway's Victor Frankenstein. Speaking of other male characters, I am not interested in boring Ethan Chandler (played by Josh Hartnett) and one-dimensional Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney). In my opinion, the best written character is probably Lily. I am glad Billie Piper lost her lousy accent from Season 1. But her look just clashes with my aesthetics. I can't entertain myself by watching her. And when Lily turns evil, she is becoming a cliché. Now I want to comment on that Angelique character. I feel creators stole the idea from the 1992 movie "The Crying Game". I don't understand the purpose of the character other than for the intentional shocking purpose. Maybe I am not fair, but after watching "The Crying Game" many years ago, I am not impressed. Anyway, the show has been renewed. I will watch it, even just to see Eva Green and Harry Treadaway. PS, I still dislike the overused gore on the show.
