I watched ep. 1 of Game of Thrones. I have never read the books, but I get the impression lots of people are fans of the books. So, I guess they are good source material. However, I don't understand all the hype surrounding the show. I am not impressed with the first episode. The only things I like about ep. 1 are probably the direwolves. They're ( Read more... )

OMG!I'll have to wait till friday to watch this.
I think everyone is excited about it because of the books. I am a big fan of the books and knowing George Martin himself was helping with the show... <3

I love the Borgias. And I think it's better of Camelot (but not of the Good Wife XD)

对呀,我觉得剧情目前还不够好看。而且里面的人物也没有书里写得美型呢,挺失望的。

I think because it is not derivative of anything, there is more hype. It is not like Tolkien or Potter, this is a brand new universe and the plot works differently. It is like the Borgias in the sense that it has to do with the intrigues of the various families.

I think that you may need to be a fan of the book to really appreciate this program. My boss said he did not like the first book, could not get into it. I can understand why-the first book devotes one chapter to each character and that is how the plot develops. So, there is a lot going on that they had to write as an actual plot rather than the observations of people.

John and Rob are far younger, too. I can see why they were aged for purposes of the story.

I think that while reading the book, that characters are not terribly likable. Some are-I really like Ned and the younger version of Jon, for example.

I agree about The Borgias being the best and I think Camelot is a close second.

Oh, yes, one thing makes GOT difficult to warm up quicky is that they introduced so many characters in one episode. In the end, I didn't remember any of their names, just a few faces. Camelot is different because the characters are well-known. The Borgias just has a handful of main characters. It's easier to follow. Speaking of The Borgias, I think I like Cesare a lot after ep. 4.

Again, I think your observation is spot on. The back of the book is literally PAGES of the family trees. I had a hard time keeping track of people in the book which is why it took me so long to get going. The Starks have SIX kids. We have not even seen the youngest in the series, perhaps they decided five were enough. And all the relations that are attached.

I am looking forward to seeing the new Borgias...

I've read the books & absolutely LOVE them! GoT is definitely my favorite, followed by The Borgias, then Camelot.

I understand that is was probably hard to figure out who was who though, I know who everyone is already though so it was easy for me. But yes LOTS of characters to keep up with!

In the books each chapter is based on someone's perspective and there were times where'd you'd go through quite a bit of pages til you got back to that character, there were times where I'd forget what happened to them last.

They did have to age up the Stark kids though, pretty sure George RR Martin said he'd wish he would of made them a bit older in the books too.

& like the previous poster said, the back of the books are just PAGES of family trees!!

Ohh & siduri don't they have FIVE kids? Rob, Sansa, Arya, Bran & Rickon? Jon is the bastard. We saw Rickon though he didn't have any speaking lines...

Anyways, I hope you keep watching because I think it's going to be a really great show! =)
