I actually think it's something else, like he gets TURNED old. I guess because I can't imagine old!Merlin wearing the same clothes he wore when he was 20. I can see him with more of a robe, and of GOOD and high quality, even.

I also told you on twitter, but OMG DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I'VE BEEN WAITING/WANTING/IMAGINING OLD MERLIN? I almost lost hope they would never show him. Flash forward or turned into an old man by magic, either way, I can't believe it. It's freaky how all the ideas I've thought they are doing. Either the ideas are predictable or I am on the same page as the writers (except for A/G).

OH, wait, I just saw the first image! I only saw the second one! I see he is wearing the lovely silky red robe! YES! Like I imagined it, ahhh, I can't even.

Now I'm thinking it's Merlin from the future traveling back in time. That's another idea I also had in my head for a long time. ahhh, this excites me too much

> he gets TURNED old

That's possible.

> I can't imagine old!Merlin wearing the same clothes he wore when he was 20. I can see him with more of a robe, and of GOOD and high quality, even.

I don't know about how much they can spend on an older Merlin's robe. But did you see pic 1? He is in a robe like what Gaius wears

> I am on the same page as the writers (except for A/G).

LOL!

Yep, I saw the robe! I edited my comment to say I saw the other pic. Which makes me think this is actually Merlin from the future come back to the past. Arthur is still young here.

In my scenes in my head, Merlin travels back in time to warn Arthur and advise him, but doing it all under the disguise of a wise old man, etc, etc. Hard to explain. In my head, Arthur feels he knows him, but doesn't recognise him, but there's that bond/connection. And Merlin can't help but stare at Arthur all weirdly, because in his future Arthur is dead, and seeing Arthur all over again, YOUNG, and non-world weary, is so...and then old!Merlin is trying to stay away from encountering young!Merlin, because you never meet your younger or older self, it's so traumatic, but it happens, and young!Merlin is all :O wtf and and...

yeah, this scene has been with me for a LONG time.

I am thinking Merlin saw his older self in the crystal cave.

Although we saw a young Arthur and an older Merlin in this set photo, they might not shoot a scene together. Who knows?

Your scenario is too Back To The Future. I hope the writers can be more creative, but they fail every time ;p

It's possible, but I don't think so. Especially as if there were any scenes scenes filmed with older!Merlin in Camelot, that were flash forwards, they wouldn't been filmed in this last block, which supposedly is scenes from episode 13. And the crystal cave is episode 5. Although I am not ruling out the crystal cave appears again in episode 13. I think he sees something else in that cave ( ... )

I love the idea of an old Merlin warning a young Arthur. But we shall see what's going to happen. S3 might be better than I expected.

Yeah, we shall see. It doesn't matter the theory though, because I imagined most of them, I think?. Flash forward, time travel and enchantment/spell that turns Merlin into an old man (this idea was more of a "for laughs" episode). My personal favorite is the first one, because it's the simplest to execute. But they could totally do the second one too, if they want to push their limits (although I don't think it's pushing it that far). The third one...being as it's the last episode, that's the only reason I can't see it, because the last episodes are always dramatic and not comedy.

I think the writers are taking a lot of the criticisms for season 2 into consideration and fixing S3, in a way. That's what I'm seeing anyway. Too bad for A/G, it's ruined completely now. They can make them friends all they want now, it's ruined. If they had made them friends FIRST...*shakes head*

You're good at predicting these things, so I've noticed.
