Not happy with this

I always don't like Merlin in ep. 2x09. But I dislike him more after I get Merlin Official Annual 2011. Here is one paragraph from the book.

His destiny didn't matter. Arthur would be fine without him. All that mattered was that this lovelly girl needed him - and he could be happy with her. He could be himself.

I don't know what's wrong with Merlin ( Read more... )

Aww... But I felt like Merlin kind of deserved to be selfish for once, y'know? He has a hard life. He has to live in secret - like that quote states, he can't be himself 95% of the time. Most everyone looks down on him...and then this pretty girl that he thinks is just like him comes along. Like he says in that episode, he's never met anyone like her before. I dunno. I thought it was understandable, although not the right choice for him to (try to) make. But he's still young, and learning to do what's right over what's easy.

I blame the writers. They wrote Merlin this way. I had a discussion with a friend the other day. She said "of course if Merlin is not happy, he can leave with Freya, but not the way he did in this episode." My friend said he could tell Arthur directly that he is not happy and wants to leave. You know, kinda of like how Gwen talked to Arthur in ep. 2x02. The show's producers/writers are too obssessed with the idea of "keeping magic secret".

Telling Arthur anything could potentially have put Freya in danger, though. Especially if he left at the same time the "cursed girl" did, which they would eventually figure out. Leaving in secret would probably be safest.

This was a really brash, spur of the moment thing for Merlin, too. All of the sudden he thinks it would be grand to run off with this girl and live a new life. It's not the kind of situation where he would inform others of his decision. He's essentially running away.

At this point, both Arthur and Merlin are still immature, which I don't think is a terrible choice. It's realistic, although I do hope it starts changing this season.

Hmm... but he doesn't have to tell Arthur anything about Freya. It's always good to give a notice before leaving a job. LOL!

Anyway, I want to say Merlin abandoning his destiny like that in ep. 2x09 is very OOC to me.

LOL. True, but I still feel that his leaving at the same time as Freya (and her absence would eventually be discovered, as the deaths would no longer occur) would cause suspicion, especially as that guard...guy...person (I R GUD WIT NAMES) already suspected him of freeing/aiding her.

It always seemed to me that Merlin hasn't come to terms with his destiny. He certainly wasn't thrilled in the beginning that it involved Arthur. XD It probably was a little OOC, but I guess to me personally it wasn't over-the-top OOC.

I see what you mean. But Merlin writers... The episode is full of plot holes already.

Speaking of guard, how did Merlin carry Freya's body out of
Camelot? And why did Merlin have to steal food from Arthur in front of him? Is it easier to smuggle food from the kitchen? Oh yeah, then we cannot see the A/M banter. I lose my faith in the writers when they write shits like these.

Haha. But I feel like all TV shows have plot holes the size of Texas. Like Lost, my favorite show of all time. XD I just go with the flow.

LOST is a more complicated show, and I still have not watched the series finale. I have it in my computer though :)

80% of the stuff in the last season conflicts with stuff in the earlier seasons, and they only wrapped up about 60% of the show's mysteries. XD I love Lost, but dang... The show ITSELF is kinda a plot hole.

I kinda of like the AU storyline of S6, and don't tell me what happened in the finale. I need to watch it soon. LOL!
