I found out the whole story the other day.
My roommate ratted me out, for one thing, and now won't even look me in the eyes. I'll confront him later. This explains why he was so silent right before it happened. He knew goddamn well what was about to happen.
The cops fucked up the search and seizure. Yes, I did my share of homework. They wouldn't allow me in the room during the search, and they took things that had no pertinence to the charges. That's pretty much illegal. They took 3 lighters from my room, along with a plain piece of bamboo and an unused pipe attachment. They left a pack of rolling papers, some pipe screens, and 3 more lighters. Explain that shit to me, somebody. They just came, grabbed some shit, sat me on the couch, and tore my room apart. Now, in a search of the dorm rooms, campus police have the right to search only school property. This includes desks, dressers, cabinets, under the bed, all things provided by the school to the student. This does not include my mini fridge and suitcase, both of which I could hear being opened and closed from the other room. Downright illegal. I have a big problem with the way they handled it, and hopefully the school will too.
The CA herself wasn't perfect. She looked straight at some beer bottles on the way to my room, disregarding them entirely. She had been called, so why get the rat in trouble? She also pushed the door open and entered without permission. Big mistake. After calling the Assistant Community Director in charge of the Village, I was assured that I would recieve notification of my punishment within 24 hours. It's been 36 and I'm still here un-notified.
Basically, when and if I do receive my punishment, I'm going to appeal. I have enough shit for them to call off the charges, and hopefully they'll find that for a freshman pulling A's and with a clean criminal record, it's just not worth the effort throwing me out. Since I don't have to move out until the appeal is officially answered, it completely benefits me to appeal no matter the circumstances. One guy appealed and they never answered. Maybe that'll happen here too.
Since it was not during the semester that the incident occurred, I should still be able to keep HOPE and Pell grants, regardless of where I'm living. And I highly doubt they'll expel me. Not over a misdemeanor.
All in all, I feel better. Fuck the po-lice.
