Phew

Ok, so this week wasn't really much easier in the end, but I've sorta gotten through it.

But for now, I thought I'd make use of my favourite site in the world, last.fm, and start this thing where each week I post my weekly chart, and then discuss it slightly. And soo...

The Chili Peppers have topped my last the last couple of weeks... Why? Well, not only are they my favourite band, but I was just lent a DVD called Funky Monks which documents the making of their album Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Fucking sweet. Also, I had planned to play Breaking The Girl solo piano style for my final mini-recital, so I was listening to that a lot. As for Cassius, they are a sweet French electronica/dance duo. At first I was like... lame... but, as with the chemical brothers, I realized that these guys are making some sweet-ass music. I got the album from Fraser during one of our wireless music exchanges.. (We gave eachother like 3gb plus of music or something.) Jamiroquai, I've always loved them. However, they made the top ten this week because I just downloaded a torrent that includes every single album of theirs. I was only missing three or so, but to finally have the whole collection is awesome. My favourite album would have to be Synkronized... what about yours?

As for the rest... It was just nice to dig Faith No More out of the proverbial closet and check that shit out again. They rock. Also, I just downloaded the new Kanye West album jsut to see what all the fuss was about. (About time, eh?) It's actually really good, I enjoy it a lot. Oh, and I've recently discovered the wonders of Gato Barbieri, an Argentinian (i think) sax player, who first came out in the free jazz scene with Don Cherry (not the hockey guy, but Ornette Coleman's pocket trumpet player,) and then in the seventies he did a bunch of latin jazz albums, which basically feature a grooving latin rhythm section, and them him blowing his fucking lungs out in the most expressive, heart-wrenching way. His style of saxophone has gone on to become a cliché, but when he does it you can tell it's authentic, and it really moves me. And the Ben Folds Five is because I was listening to the Whatever and Ever Amen album over and over again last week (see the locked entry). All my other Ben Folds music is tagged just "ben folds" except for that album. I should change that, to keep my last.fm profile consistent. But anyways.... I won't even go into the rest. The Beatles and Miles Davis always make the top ten, and Dave Douglas is a sick contemporary trumpet player. More on him later.

That's all for today. The weekly chart is updated every Sunday, so this is all stuff that I listened to laast week. I'll probably but the new one up tomorrow or Monday.

Oh man, sometimes I just LOVE being a music nerd. Well, maybe not so much nerd as geek... Whatever.

And now to go on with my day.... I gotta grab a GO bus to Streetsville, to do a recording session from noon to midnight. aaahh.... this is going to be stressful. To try and maximize my productivity, I have abstained from smoking up this morning. That will make today my first weed-free day in... weeks. I hope it goes ok. I hope the session goes ok.

Wish me luck guys.
