So, last evening during the bedtime routine, Tommy was taking too long in the bathroom, and I checked on him and he was scratching spots.
Chickenpox.
Not entirely unexpected, someone at daycare had them two weeks ago. But Tommy did get vaccinated, so I was hoping to be safe. The last few days he's been sounding hoarse, but his energy level and eating have been normal. Leave it to a nice sunny day to keep a toddler in the mood.
In any case, he's home w/ mom overdosing on videos and hopefully not infecting the twins, while Cece, who has no symptoms, is free to go to daycare. We could be evil and send him too, since it seems like such a mild case, but decided against the bad Karma that would bring, espically if the daycare mom caught sight of the spots. he has none on his face or arms, a couple on his back and legs, but mostly centered around the diaper area. Really, we could claim ignorance if he didn't itch.
Speaking of the itch, the first thing we were instructed to do from the daycare mom was to trim his fingernails _really_ short. Very sensible. However, he's a nailbiter, and I never trim his nails cause they're gone before I get there anyways. Well, I had to sit on his arm and do it just to get it down to the skin. After finishing with the screaming, I looked and I did cut skin on two of his fingers. Ouch. I'm a bad parent. But unlike my wife, I didn't give up on the task when he was screaming for me to stop. Wimp.
Oh, and our main babysitter is leaving tomorrow on a two-week European tour. And we have a 7-year-old nephew's birthday party on Saturday, don't think we'll go w/ the Pox.
In other news, my sister is pregnant, due early November. Just one this time, she assures us (they have 3-year-old twins). My mother just found out yesterday. This will be grandchild #11 for her, enough for a football team! On, how crowded her house will be at Christmas.
I threw away a jacket yesterday. No big deal, except I've been wearing it since highschool. Hmm, I've had the same jacket for 20 years. Wow. No, it wasn't the duster, I've only had that since college, about 15 years. And I hardly ever get the chance to wear the duster, since its uncomfortable to drive my car in it.. The "new" jacket is a hand-me-down from my wife. She bought it for $3 at a rummage sale while she was pregnant w/ the twins. It fits me fine, the sleaves are a touch shoter than I prefer, but they do go down to my wrists so its not undersized.
