Come on kids, LEARN!

I think I must be getting old. Because I've noticed this phonomenon I've never had the reason to notice before... and I find myself annoyed when I probably shouldn't be.

I work at a cash register. Sometimes KIDS will come up to buy stuff. And shockingly, 8 times out of 10... no, let's say 9... they are not prepared for sales tax.

KID: I'd like to buy this postcard [95 cents]
ME: Ok that'll be $1.03
KID: I only have a dollar...
ME: Can you go borrow a nickel from another KID, kid?
KID: ok...

sometimes they find a donor, sometimes they don't, once in a while I'll give them 3 pennies of my own (i'm so generous)

But what I'm wondering is, what grade do they teach sales tax? These kids are usually 6-10 years old... I remember learning how to count money when I was in 2nd grade although I dont remember when I learned tax. But I think, if you give your kid a buck to buy stuff with, shouldn't you warn them that there is a (hefty, in this state)tax for things? 8.25%, bitches!!!
