Subjunctive History

Remember October in the twilight
We'd comb our hair and stand on rooftops
Yelling our biggest secrets to the sky,
Keeping them trapped between the clouds

Then we'd huddle in the darkness
With sticky mouths and eager minds
Devouring the words of the great
With greedy eyes
And composing our works of backwards prose

I'd say: "here is a realm of infinite possibilities"
And you'd smile with your shiny teeth
Glinting in the moonlight.
Sparkling.

Right there under starlight
We swore we'd never come down;
Not for all the money in the world

One of the best birthday presents i've ever got! Thanks so much Josephine. A song is currently in progress based on your pretty words
