Sam was released on the night before Thanksgiving. The next day was spent over at Cas and Pam's, celebrating everything that they had to be thankful for. But the next morning, Dean was back at work, Cassie had a story deadline, and Sam found himself taking a long walk around the neighborhood to keep himself occupied.
The one thing that had been missing the other day was Jo. Every day, Sam felt the loss. But he had also realized that she was the love of his life, and the only one for him. However, he had hurt her in so many ways that was pretty certain it was going to be a long road back into her good favors again.
His feet brought him back to where her brownstone was. He sat across the street on a bus stop bench, just watching the door. The key for the apartment was still on his key-chain, and he could just walk up and knock on her door. Face the music and try to explain just how... why he had messed up.
But that had been half a year now. More, because he was in jail and then rehab for over six months. He wouldn't have blamed her if she had moved on. He had assumed that the quiet engagement was ended when he had gone back to Ruby's bed. But that had been a mistake and he was paying for it. And he would keep paying for it for the rest of his life.
Jo... he needed her back - wanted her back in the worst way. And yet as he stood at her doorstep, he had no idea how to face her and apologize for all he had done wrong against her. So finally, he made his decision and walked across the street. Opening the mailbox, he pried his key off the ring and dropped it in. He then reached into his pocket and pulled out his six month sober coin. He held it a moment, then dropped it in as well.
He was trying to get back to where he was good enough for her again. He could only hope that seeing the coin would show her that. Closing the mailbox, he started back towards Dean's apartment. He was going to meet his probation officer there for their first meet and setting up their schedules as well as getting his social worker assignment. Fun afternoon.
