Day 32 - Saturday, 12 February 2005

Jul 02, 2010 18:03

Jack is changing out of his scrubs, ready to go home and enjoy a quiet night with Kate and the baby. As soon as he steps foot out of the hospital he spots Kate, waiting for him on a bench.

“Hey there” is what he says once he has caught up with her, he sits next to her. She remains silent for a few minutes, making him wonder if he did something wrong or if she’s just upset.

He waits for her to speak, but she doesn’t; so he gently takes one of her hands between his and rubs it a little, she sighs and starts rubbing back.

He cannot see her like this, apathetic, it hurts him too much so he gotta ask “Kate, what’s wrong?”, she shakes her head but he can’t understand if there’s nothing wrong or if she doesn’t wanna talk about it.

After what it feels a long time she speaks “My mum got worse. She’s sick and I can’t visit her because the last time I did she called the cops on me. I tried to set foot in the hospital but the nurse kicked me out, she said that my mum expressly asked to never let me in”.

At this point a river of tears is dropping from her eyes and Jack can’t do nothing but hold her and let her weep on his shoulder.

He doesn’t ask for anything else, he knows she’ll tell other parts when she’s ready, now he can just hold her and to be there for her, he wants her to know that she is not alone, that not everyone wants to cut her out of their lives.

Hours later when the sun is down, she’s still crying on that bench, holding on to the one person she can never let push her away otherwise it’d be ten times worst than this.
