I would also like you to consider how you would feel should anyone be hurt in an attempt to avenge you, before suggesting which of us ought to be shutting their mouths here, sir.

Oh, to Hell with this. I should never have called for help from you damned mortals. I should have dealt with this all myself!

Now that it is over I am considerably better. This trouble was never my desire.
By all means, continue.

I'm glad things have improved.
I'm aware that... you were hurt whilst trying to calm Mr Hoffman down, which is commendable in itself, but I must offer you some apologies. As I am a little concerned the information - or lack of information - I could give him might have contributed to what it did.
As one of those affected, I can only give you my sincerest regrets for your suffering.

Doctor, you were placed in a very bad position by all of this. I understand the need for confidentiality.
In honesty you are far less at fault than I. I can say this now that I have calmed. I gave him the blood when he was not emotionally ready to handle it. I gave him the blood in the hope that it would heal him when he was too close to death. And when his Warden was in your care, I thought I could handle him alone.
I have paid for it. I continue to do so. [Grim little smile] I am not happy, but...this is all necessary.
I merely wish...ah, the interconnectedness of people. Had Mr. Lupin not been harmed, Hoffman would have been all right. I think that the true trigger of his violence, the thing that broke his back, was not your feather or my brick, but that anvil.
