for the past couple of days, i was getting shitty weird-ass computer lag. my games were taking forever to load (battlefield 2 took me 20 minutes to load a map...no joke) and i was getting an extra 1-2minutes for simple things. all the tv shows i had on my computer were skipping for the first 3 minutes or so. i also had mouse lag while just idling on my desktop randomly.

i did a test using a program called HDTach and found out that my main drive was running at a cool 3.5mb a second. THAT IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. 120mb/sec is where i'm supposed to be at. So i'm thinking my hard drive is dying. I run a HDD Regeneration test, which should fix the problem if it's physical...but didn't. I ran it again, and it still didn't help. I did a memory test to make sure it wasn't the memory fucking up; memory does some crazy shit sometimes. NOPE. I was backing up my files to reformat, and I shut down to try the last thing I could think of. The IDE Bus. What if it blew up?

My primary IDE bus had two things connected to it, my CD-RW and my secondary hard drive. My secondary IDE bus is the one that had the OS drive on it. I put my OS drive on the primary one like it should be (it never gave me any problems before, it's always been like that) and the CDRW/secondary HD on the other bus, changed the boot order in the BIOS, and voila. Computer working again.

That doesn't tell me what the problem was at all. In theory, if it was the IDE bus causing the problem, my secondary drive should be running really slow. But it's not. It's normal.

This leads me to believe that it was some IRQ conflict causing my computer to shut down, but I can't verify it nor do I want to recreate the problem.

To sum it up: i wasted like two and a half days trying to figure out what this fucking problem was and it was something I could have done immediately. I also sacrificed all my roms/emulators to make room for stuff I needed to backup for the reformat, so I'm kinda pissed. WHATEVER. COMPUTER WORKS AND I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY $ FOR IT.
