Innercity.
Left at 8:30 this morning, and didn't get back until 5. looong day.
Went to Watts and knocked on doors in the projects.
We were collecting kids for a children's ministry, inviting them to come back on the busses with us. it sounds a little sketch, i know, but it was legit, i swear.
It was so awesome. I helped pass out food to some of the local adults, and then went around to talk to kids and young adults. I got split up from the people i knew, but it gave me an opportunity to travel around with some interesting people, especially one girl from detroit.
Anyways, we walked through the neighborhood talking to people hanging out outside and inviting the young kids that were everywhere.
At one house we visited, a girl invited us in and made us cinnamon rolls...she was adorable.
Her neighbor, too, was so sweet. she was seventeen and had the cutest baby boy, and they lived with her mom and siblings, all of which were oh-so-cute.
The whole day really made me realize how screwed up my priorities were last semester,
How much my energies were in all the wrong things.
I just love being with people and making them happy...and being blessed by them in return, as selfish as that sounds.
It's just sad to me that i can leave there and come back to my charmed life in malibu, but that environment IS their life. I don't know. I just wish i could do more, i guess.
