[justprompts] Whoa-Oh Those Summer Nights

Jul 15, 2010 17:42

(Set in Save Tonight. Wayyy down the line, obviously. Picture prompt here. Shannon is an NPC and belongs to me and foundherwings.)

"Dad."

Michael brought his head up, feeling like he'd been caught doing something wrong, but he didn't know what. He looked at his daughter who had just come in the front door. She was wearing cut-off jean shorts and a tank top. The top of a bikini was tied up around the back of her neck.

"Shannon."

She rolled her eyes. "You are not going to the beach like that."

He looked down at his usual light weight suit and black shoes before looking back to her. "I...didn't realize I was going to the beach?"

"You are. Didn't Mom tell you?"

"No..."

Shannon huffed and walked over, setting her hands to his shoulders, to turn him around and push him towards her parents' bedroom. "Mom was going to go with me, but then she got a work call. She said you'd take her place."

Michael silently groaned with a facepalm and reminded himself to thank Jess later. "Shannon, I don't go to the beach."

"You went when I was a kid."

"Because you and your mother wanted to."

"Well now I want to." She looked up at him with her large brown eyes and a frown. He hated when she did that.

"We could do something else. Go to the shooting range?"

"No."

"Visit your grandmother?"

"Da-aad."

Michael sighed, never able to say no to her anyway. "Fine. But the second you make fun of me I'm coming back home."

"I won't," Shannon replied with a grin. She bounced over to the couch and sat down while she waited for him to change.

"Everything going okay?" Michael called from the bedroom.

"Yeah, fine," she called back.

"How's the boat?"

"It's good. Uncle Sam is crashing on the couch for a few days."

When Michael came out of the bedroom he gave her a look. "Is he?"

"Uh-huh." She didn't comment on how white he looked in his swim trunks. He noticed she wanted to say something.

"What about your-uh..your social life?"

"My 'social life'," she said, making air quotes, "went back to men."

"I see," he nodded. Whether she dated men or women, Michael didn't like talking about her love life. "I'm sorry, kiddo."

Shannon shrugged. "I guess I haven't learned my lesson in dating women that are new to the whole thing."

Michael sighed. "But...your mom said you really liked her. Are you sure-"

She jumped to her feet and nodded. "Positive. I'm awesome. You, however, need some sun."

"Hey. We agreed on no-"

"I wasn't teasing, I was stating a fact. You're going to blind everyone."

"Then why don't we stay in?"

"Because I want to go to the beach," she said. "And because you love me." She leaned up to kiss his cheek, then headed for the door.

With a sigh and slight roll of his eyes, he obediently followed. "I'm not getting in the ocean."

"Oh yes you are."
