BABY Dom.....

Well....sorta.

I was flipping through old Elijah pictures looking for that perfect manipping head shot - I really, really was looking at ELIJAH pictures (there's proof, so I'll stop feeling guilty) and about mid-way through my nostalgic sigh of how darn CUTE he was with that laughable little side hawk thing - I found this.....

Now it's neither new....or all that amazing....or anything that I haven't seen before.....BUT..... )

Ya know....I think I might be one of the rare few who is under the impression that Dom hasn't really changed all that much since back then. He's grown up, definitely - but they all have really - and change is a natural part of life and everyone does it to some degree - constantly. I don't know - I guess to me it just seems like people are stamping the great big ugly label of 'CHANGED' across Dom's face because of reasons that might not be entirely fair. Back in the LOTR hey-day Dom was in front of the camera when DOM chose to be - he attended premiers and conventions and press releases and parties and did interviews and appearances - anything and everything, but it was ALL at Dom's discretion. He wasn't being followed around by paparazzi and having his picture snapped in resturants and juice bars or paying a fucking parking meter or having a conversation on his phone. No one can be expected to be comfortable being followed around by some nut with a camera all the time and having pictures of them and their new love plastered all over tabloids and the internet left and right just because they happen to be in a sucessful television series. I don't know - when I watch Dom doing interviews on television or read magazine ones - to me, it still REEKS of old Dom - cheeky and cracking jokes and talking in his ridiculous accents and being ellusive one minute and bold and open the next. He seems a little tired sometimes...a little older and possibly matured a bit....but it's still Dom.

So yeah....changed a bit - but not really all that different ;)

Well, we all have different feelings about whether Dom has changed or not. And everyone goes through some degree of change as they get older, true enough, But as I see it, those changes are more due to how he presents himself, now that he is a star on Lost, and how he is handling his "relationship" with Evi.

Sometimes, his personality seems different... more subdued, more polished. Like he's giving off an "image", so to speak. And the way he's dealing with the press regarding Evi... lets just say that I wish he was doing things differently in that area.

With the level of fame Dom has now, pap pics are inevitable. Most of his fans enjoy seeing those glimpses of him. I know he doesn't like it when those type of pics are of him and Evi... I don't know how he feels about pap pics with just him in it.

At this point, he's no longer doing LOTR conventions. From what I understand, he's asking for a fee that's higher than what the cons can afford to pay him. It's his choice, but I'm sorry that he won't be supporting the LOTR fans in this way anymore.

On talk shows, I still see the old Dom, mostly. Still charming and cheeky, etc. But, I see all these changes... and well... its made a difference, in general, in how I perceive him. Takes some adjusting. :)

Ya know - I'll be the first to step up and admit that I've been somewhat out of the information loop here over the last few months, however - it's almost hard for me to believe that Dom has stopped doing conventions simply because they won't pay him enough. Maybe I'm wrong - theres a VERY good chance that I'm talking out of my ass here - but I remember something from a while back where the organazation was poor and the fans were treated more like sheep and there were problems left and right that had very little to do with him not getting paid enough. I don't know - like I said - I don't really know - but Dom has also moved on a bit, he does endless promotions for LOST, toured all summer for it and is probably exhausted. And he's not the only one who has quit doing LOTR conventions and it seems a bit unfair to criticize him to harshly for it.

I don't know what to say about his relationship with Evi. I know that it upsets a LOT of fans and I can honsetly say it did bother me in the beginning - but I can also be honest and say that it was a jealousy thing. I have no problem with her. I have no problem with the pictures that surface of the two of them together. To me it seems like there was rumor and talk (months and months back) of them being a thing - the press got wind of it and had they just came right out and said in the beginning that they were together - they probably never would have had to deal with the level of privacy invasion on it that they have. BUT - they didn't. Who knows why - maybe they weren't actually a couple at the time - mabye what they said was actually true - That was their PRIVATE life - and so little of their lives is allowed to be private with the fame and sucess they're experienceing at the moment - maybe they really just did not want to deal with that. I don't know. But you know how things go. Tell someone it's none of their business and they make it there personal mission to find out EVERY LAST DETAIL. It sucks for them - but seriously - the only thing he's really done in regards to publically handeling his relationship with Evi is to tell the public to butt out.

I understand what you're saying about him appearing more polished - but then again - that too will come with the level of fame he's at right now. He's grown used to it - he's grown used to being spotted in public and grown used to interviews and nosy questions and 'flailing' fans - it is inevitable that his outward appearance and demeanor will change somewhat as he grows and matures and grows into his success. But like you said - we all have our opinions on this subject. To me Dom HAS changed. Elijah has changed. Every other cast memeber that we have followed and loved has changed in one way or another and watching them on their paths has been rather fun. I still adore Dom. Like you said - he's endlessly charming and charismatic, cute and funny and sexy as hell and even though the LORT era seems to be over as a whole for him - I will still enjoy following him and his career.

It's true that many of the actors from LOTR no longer do the cons, but Elijah, Sean and Billy continue to do them on a regular basis. Here's a quote from one of the organizers of Ring Con, regarding salary:

No news on another LOTR actor as of yet but we have signed a new band from the U.S. They're well known in the con circuit. We'll be making that announcement soon.
On another note, it looks like Dominic Monaghan is trying to distance himself from his LOTR character and is asking an unbelievable 6 figure fee to do conventions. He expects no one could afford that and he's right. To bad Dom. We hope you change your mind. The RING*CON fans are the best in the world. You should come and take a look for a fee.

Which means that Dom is asking for $100,000 or more to do a convention, while, from what i understand, the other hobbit actors don't even get paid half that much. So, scheduling issues aside, it looks like the salary he is asking for will prevent him from doing any further LOTR cons.

To me it seems like there was rumor and talk (months and months back) of them being a thing - the press got wind of it and had they just came right out and said in the beginning that they were together - they probably never would have had to deal with the level of privacy invasion on it that they have.

Exactly. Instead, at first they said they were single. Then, they kind of denied it, while at the same time saying they wouldn't say yes or no.. that it was their private life. Now, they still won't acknowledge it, and yet Dom has said things that have indirectly confirmed it.

I agree that some changes have come with maturity. But still, he seems different to me at times, for various reasons, and in ways that I'm not always happy with. Doesn't mean that I don't see the good in him, also.

I understand how you feel, honey. We just see things a bit differently. Now, if only we could see pictures of Dom and Elijah together again. Which is part of the reason I had hoped Dom would do LOTR cons again. Can't I get to see Dom be all cheeky and charming... and have Elijah standing next to him? What I wouldn't give to see that once more! :)

INDEED - I miss terribly the old pictures of the two of them together - hell, of the whole hobbit squadron together - so it does really suck that they don't do the conventions together anymore - they always had such wonderful interaction and it was captured so well in pictures and DAMN - do I miss that.

If that salary thing is true - it really does suck - but ya know - maybe there's more to it - if in fact he is asking for too much, maybe something happened that just turned him off of conventions all together and that was his way out. I'm not saying that THAT is much better - but ya know - I suppose none of us will ever really understand exactly what changed with the convention thing - who knows.

As for the Evi thing - how can any of us honestly say that we would handle the whole thing any better if suddenly placed in that situation. Both of them were relatively new to being in the scruitinizing public eye - Dom had been there for years with LOTR - but never to the degree that LOST put him at - so yeah...dont judge too harshly.

Oh well...I suppose the only thing left for you and I to do it to keep writing the fake scenarios where they are together and making the fake pictures and crossing our fingers and hoping like hell that maybe one day - they'll give us something like they used to!

(sorry - this is neither well thought out and probably a grammatical nightmare - I am SOOOOOO tired right now)
