I was so excited to see Night Watch. The trailer is awesome and the movie was so visually appealing. So naturally I figured that the sequel, Day Watch, would be just as intense. Well, I made the mistake of watching the second one stoned. Now you'd think that since the effects Night Watch were so beautiful, this would be a good idea. But no. I couldn't help but cringe and wince at how Americanized the sequel is. Just look at the difference in covers. 'UNRATED!'? The dude standing there pointing a flashlight at the camera? Sexy lady strutting her stuff in fur coat? And the movie was just as bad. Yeah the effects were just as sweet as the first, but they are so overshadowed by how pathetically hard the movie tries to be cool. This movie feels like it's trying its hardest to be American, though the directors don't actually have a damn clue what a good American movie is. Maybe they're mocking American movies, in which case, what did they achieve? The music is too loud and exaggarated and there's way too much action and the story was impossible to follow.
I watched this a couple months ago but I keep looking over at my NightWatch dvd and felt this deserved a rant.
