Our son's graduation from the academy will be coming up in a few months. All the excitement over that.It is going to be a long and exciting week.We have pictures to buy and probably a diploma frame. We will get a nice wall plaque from Sergeant Grit. Thanks, Estelle for pointing me in that direction. And there is the silver dollar for him to give to the person who gives him his first salute.Actually it will be gold.On graduation day I will finally get to see him in his Marine Corps uniform.Aren't they sharp. Our son says that Marines do not take kindly to other Marines who don't look sharp in their uniform.I am proud. He got what he wanted, Marine Air.
Now for the down side which really hit home last night while I was watching a show on PBS.These young men are trained killers and trained to die doing this.It doesn't sound human does it?I know the training will change him forever and test his body to the limits. If he fails it will break his spirit.I have known for a very long time that he has a mind of his own and a lot of determination.During the last four years he has met the girl who he wants to spend his life with.I think he will be leaning on her a lot. This has annoyed a buddy of his who wants him to go through Marine officer training with him but he wants to go through two weeks earlier so that he can join the woman he loves in Pensacola as soon as possible. It is going to be another exciting year.It would be nice to go down there next year for Mardi Gras.
