Hamlet through to Brisbane

I was supposed to see Hamlet on the 1st July but didn't because I was in RPA emergency with a drama-injury. Doesn't sound as dramatic as a sporting injury but that's wot I got. Bare-footed exercies (they're all fucking bare-footed), Sarah's foot comes down on my foot as my foot is moving up, muscle gets pulled, sprain, ouchie ouchie, can't walkie, ouchie, can't fit in bootie, OUCHIE.

Spent the evening sitting in Accidents and Emergency, five hours in total, waiting for a doctor to tell me it WASN'T broken, which we knew already as I could still stand, just not walk, then hand me a pair of crutches. A process that could have taken 5 MINUTES and I would have had time to see Hamlet. But no.

So I hobbled to the Air Port with my mother the next morning and spent the first two days of my trip to Brisbane on crutches. My toe was a lovely shade of eye-shadow-party-worthy-purple though!

First day Granny was here too... she indulged in telling me the story she tells me EVERYTIME she sees me and my brothers together - the one about what a horrible little bossie child I was and how WISE she was because she told me not to boss the boys and when I did they head-butted me. I said "Gran, I've heard this story 300 times before, and given I was 5, I don't really care anymore. I'm 21. Over it." The rest of the time she just drove us nuts with stories about how her uncle's dog's first owner's wife's son from a previous marriage owned something very important and prestigious and was a very rich man. Apparently this association of hers is something to be proud of. People who measure worth in bank account sizes never cease to amuse me.

Yesterday I caught up with Elysha who was a good friend in primary school in Tasmania, now living in brisbane and studying Creative Industries which I figure is similar to our course but maybe better. They all are. It was weird - we were the daggiest girls in school when we first became friends, never had an interest in make-up, minimal interest in boys, yet yesterday we spent six hours browsing through clothing shops, lamenting not having money to buy those shoes and bitching/wasing lyrical about this boy or that.

I've seen my brothers on average two out of every three days, which has been nice. Today we went bowling and I got my arse kicked. Then we played snooker and, you guessed it, I got my arse kicked. When I suggested we go do something I was good at because I needed an ego boost, say a bout of Karaoke and see who won the most money, thier enthusiasm was supprisingly lax.

Actor friend in NIDA 1st yr has asked me to direct a short play I wrote last year for him and another first year. Apparently the teachers encourage them to be working on small projects outside of the course content and to present this work to teachers. AND Aubrey has some love of actors who write, SO - I might be able to do some serious brown-nosing and get my writing performed in front of the panel... shifty, hey?

Anyway, I'm to bed.
