Kimi wa Petto

I got into this drama because of Satomi’s appearance in Arashi’s Shukudai kun. I came across this years ago, but for some reason, thought that Matsujun was her dog and he became a man and lived with her or something (?! Crap I know right. XD) For a looong time, I misunderstood the storyline. Till today, when I was surfing youtube I saw a promo of it and found it pretty interesting. Not to mention, Jun looks REALLY GOOD in this! A review of the storyline made me realize boy have I been wrong about it.

I know it’s really the wrong time to be following a drama, but for now I’ll try to finish this as soon as I can. But I tried to finish it as soon as I could, with quite a big price to pay for school :S

Takeshi (AKA momo), a 20 year old aspiring modern dancer meets Sumire (played by Koyuki) with a twist of fate on a rainy night, in a box. Not really explaining anymore of this seeing that any other reviewers have already explained what happened when the two met. Sumire, a successful, beautiful and intelligent woman faces difficulty in both her love life and career, finds comfort with her new pet Momo, a recent addition in her house.

Wasn’t the best drama out there, but I enjoyed it a lot. Heart wrenching, love dovey, sweet comedy (: Although the origin of this relationship may have been a little queer with pet and master, for someone like Sumire she's really lucky that her pet was a man. If she had really picked up a dog she wouldn't have managed to find a person who understands her as much as Momo did. The last minute of the drama was pretty cute :D. It’s been a long time since I had the impulse to marathon a drama.. ah, now back to reality.

CHARACTER: 7/10

SOUNDTRACK: 5/10

LIKELIHOOD OF BIASEDNESS: 8.5/10

ENJOYMENT: 7/10

ENDING: 7/10
PLOT: 7/10

Kimi wa Petto follows Sumire mostly, as she faces conflict with her colleges and also her meeting of her old crush at work. Her senpai, the perfect man, the man of her dreams perhaps, confesses to her and they start a relationship together… I liked the play of jealousy between Momo and Sumire, it’s a little playful and yet can be heart throbbing sometimes XD. The problem arises when she happens to treat him more than a pet, whether it was a form of a lover or not I don’t know for sure.

Although her affection towards Momo is confusing, it is established that she loves him as a pet. Something (or rather someone) who accepts her as she is, which is something everyone needs. The depiction of this filling each other’s missing part roles is kind of common these days (post 2007), in dramas like Hotaru no Hikari. Since I’m writing this as I go, at this point of time I myself am unsure who she ends up with. Her pet? Or her crush?

What’s wonderful is the way they talk about Momo, phrases like “just throw him away!” or “come here Momo!” or how they disregard his actions which, are too affectionate for a man to do so, but acceptable for a pet eg him sleeping on her lap naturally when she sits on the floor. (insert AWW here) I love their interaction. I love the way Jun acts as a spoilt brat all the time as Momo. Crap I’m getting all biased and lengthy here.

Back to the point, Momo on the other hand, seems to have something else in mind. He uncontrollably falls for her and makes excuses for himself time and time again. He, like Sumire has two sides to him as he behaves like a reliant brat when he’s with her yet like a star/bochama when he’s in his “dancer mode”. I guess it’s kind of cute too XD

Honestly the starting of the first ep is a little suspicious. If you saw someone covered in cuts and bruises with pretty serious bleeding in a cardboard would you grab the box and pull it into your home? Lol, I guess because it’s a drama it’s got the license to be a little out of this world. Either way, I’m pretty glad it was explained “the next morning” :P Jun sure is cute as Momo (AKA Takeshi), he might not get the chance to play such “boyish” roles anymore. ):

Ep 1 kind of made me teared a bit, especially when it was the first time she was stroked Momo ;( it was pretty sad..
